To drive and provide strategic direction and oversight for the Group’s Legal department in order to protect its interests and deliver longer term organizational objectives in line with regulatory, statutory and legal parameters. Collegially formulate an aligned strategic framework to enable shareholder and stakeholder value. The Chief Legal Officer is responsible for the Legal practice of the organisation and contributes to the overarching executive management of the business, enabling the availability of resources and measurement of cost efficiencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead strategic direction setting and strategic planning for Legal in alignment to the company’s vision, mission and values.
- Direct the Group’s Legal activities, including the approval of legal plans and templates, the selection of directors or other high-level staff, or establishment or organization of major departments.
- Negotiate or approve contracts or agreements with suppliers, distributors, state agencies, or other organizational entities.
- Formulate and drive the implementation of departmental policies, goals, objectives, or procedures in conjunction with board members, organization officials, or staff members.
- Participate in professional forums where financial and operational health of the department can be tracked and analysed at board level.
- Coordinate with external law firms in order to pursue legal cases for and against the Group to protect the Group’s interests.
- Participate in decision making at EXCO level - prepare proposals and reports for submission to Board.
- Sponsor company initiatives and projects as it relates to Legal.
- Ensure business strategy in the area of accountability is adequately budgeted for to drive the financial performance of the business.
- Manage the costs associated with the contracting of external law firms and legal counsel and report accordingly.
- Research, collate and present business intelligence to feed into management decisions and support business strategy.
- Ensure audit processes, business intelligence and other information is used to analyse data in order to identify and escalate risk.

- Represent the company in court.
Candidate Requirements
LLB Degree
7-10 years’ experience in Commercial Law
Previous experience in the healthcare industry is advantageous.
