Requirements:
- Appropriate qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) in Ultrasonography. Degree / National Diploma in Radiography plus Ultrasound postgraduate qualification / Degree in ultrasound.
- Current registration with HPCSA for 2024/2025.
- For Grade 1: No experience after registration with HPCSA as an independent Ultrasound Radiographer and after completion of community service. Community Service Ultrasound Radiographers completing their contract on or before 31/12/2024 are encouraged to apply.
- For Grade 2: Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience and above after registration with HPCSA as an ultrasound radiographer and after completion of community service.
- For Grade 3: Minimum of twenty (20) years’ experience and above after registration with HPCSA as an ultrasound radiographer and after completion of community service.
- Knowledge, skills, training and competencies required: Sound knowledge of specialised and general ultrasonography protocols and equipment, comprehensive knowledge of radiography/ultrasound legislation, knowledge of OHS Act and relevant Health Acts, sound knowledge of ultrasound Quality Assurance programme, computer literacy (Ms Word, Ms. Excel), and effective interpersonal skills.
Duties:
- Provide high quality ultrasound services in line with central hospital protocols.
- Provide expert advice to other health professionals regarding ultrasound examinations.
- Perform overtime as allocated.
- Supervise the booking system to minimize waiting times for all patients.
- Support the Ultrasound Manager to meet departmental objectives.
- Render effective patient-centred ultrasound service for in-and out-patients in adherence to health protocols.
- Ensure efficient and effective control and use of all equipment, assets and resources.
- Participate in developing, implementing and monitoring policies and procedures for department functionality.
- Ensure Diagnostic services comply with relevant standards, legislation and government initiatives.
- Manage quality assurance programmes as required by radiation control directorate and department of Health.
- Provide clinical training and supervision to junior staff and student radiographers.
- Encourage a multidisciplinary approach by fostering close working relationships with other departments.
- Supervise, develop, train and monitor the performance of subordinate staff.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
- Perform all administrative functions required of the job.
- Contribute to professional development of self and colleagues.
