Job Description
KEY ROLE:
The role requires knowledge and understanding of all aspects of construction management from a contractor’s perspective, to include but not limited to an understanding of contracts, risk, health & safety, progress planning, partnering, cost control and reporting methodologies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility of the role is to administer all commercial and contractual matters relating to a specific element(s) of the Kusile Power Station, South Africa.
- Ensure commercial processes and procedures are adhered to.
- Set clear commercial objectives and cascade to commercial team.
- Develop and encourage direct staff to take responsibility for sections of the Project.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities and manage them through to conclusion to minimise Employer’s liability.
- Develop an effective interface with the finance function.
- Value large and complex variations expeditiously.
- Manage all aspects of claims drawing on experts when required.
- Ensure accurate records are maintained.
- Fulfil any other task that can be reasonably within the contemplation of the role.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- BSc Quantity Surveying Degree, BTech Quantity Surveying Degree or similar relevant Construction related Qualification.
- Minimum of 12 years commercial management experience; with at least 5 years at a leadership level
- Strong Quantity Surveying background and experience managing a team of commercial professionals.
- Experience in managing multiple contracts.
KEY COMPETENCIES AND GENERIC SKILLS:
- Good understanding of contractual law.
- Technical knowledgeable in commercial, contract and risk management.
- Extensive contracts negotiation and claims management experience with the ability to deliver to deadlines.
- Exposure to large engineering and construction projects.
- Outstanding communication, leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability. to develop proactive and professional working relationships.
- Ability to resolve problems independently and operate efficiently under pressure.
- Demonstrated ability to drive change through the organization and proven track record of leading multi-discipline commercial teams.
