Job Description
WSP has a new opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to be part of our Mine Waste team on a full-time basis based in Midrand. The typical role and responsibilities of this role is to provide Geotechnical Engineering services in the mining, infrastructure as well as property and buildings sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Project management of geological and geotechnical projects, including multi-disciplinary projects, tailings facility site investigations, buildings and infrastructure projects.
- Interpret geological and geotechnical data, perform analysis, and draw conclusions/recommendations.
- Prepare proposals, tenders, reports, and other technical deliverables.
- Manage, perform analysis and conduct field observations and carry out geological and geotechnical reporting for projects.
- Use judgement in making adaptations and modifications where required and in association with other Senior Engineers.
- Characterise ground conditions and materials.
- Prepare proposals including determining methodology and compilation of cost estimations.
- Supervise work of technicians on site and junior professional staff where required.
- Identify safety hazards, report OH&S incidents and conduct all work in a safe manner.
- Complete inductions and pre-requisites as required.
- Conduct all work to satisfy all company, client and government conditions, policies, procedures, regulations, and standards.
- Carry out client and business development activities.
- Prepare presentation materials and present to clients.
- Participate in training activities, mentoring, and transferring knowledge to intermediate/junior geotechnical engineers/engineering geologists.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
Post-graduate studies in Geotechnical Engineering field preferable.
At least 8 years’ post-graduate experience.
Professional registration with ECSA or similar.
Consolidated experience in Geotechnical Investigations – Factual and Interpretive.
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong written, diagrammatic, and oral communication skills.
Well-developed interpersonal skills.
Proven record of independent work and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Proven track record of working on large, intermediate, and small size jobs in a cross section of sectors.
Solid technical knowledge and application in soil/rock mechanics.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills.
