Our client an Afrikaans Hoërskool in Pretoria-East area is looking for an experienced Financial Manager to join their team.
Minimum requirements:
- NQF Level 7 or 8 qualification in accounting sciences.
- Previous experience working for a school would be highly advantageous
- At least 5+ years of accounting and management experience , as well as the completion of SAIPA or SAICA articles, with current membership would be highly beneficial
Computer skills in: - MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint),
- Sage (Pastel Partner, Sage One),
- SASPAC or D6 (Knowledge and experience are not specific requirements but would be beneficial),
- Audit and reporting software (Caseware, Draftworx).
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Passion for financial control and management, with a keen eye for accuracy.
- Strong verbal, written communication, and personnel management skills are essential
Position overview:
The position of Financial Manager at an Afrikaans Hoërskool in Pretoria-East entails comprehensive responsibilities in financial management, reporting, and oversight to ensure the school’s finances are handled sustainably, responsibly, and efficiently, in compliance with the South African Schools Act (Act 84 of 1996). This role requires someone with strong financial skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to work within a team and report to both the SGB and school management.
Duties will include but is not limited to:
- Financial reporting (management statements, cash flow, and results) to the School Management and Governing Body to keep them informed of the school’s financial position.
- Hold monthly meetings following financial reporting committee meetings, maintaining attendance lists and minutes for all meetings.
- Detailed analysis, including: bank balances, income and expenses summary, debtors movement, approved projection balances, month-end debtor details, charges and write-offs, capital expenditure
- Budgets and forecasts.
- Deadlines and reporting (budget, audit, reconciliation).
- Monthly salary administration , semi-annual and annual 501 reconciliation (including PAYE, UIF, and IRP5 certificates).
- Overseeing the preparation of:
- Annual audit and financial statements,
- General finances (debtors and creditors reconciliations, reporting, and payments),
- Control and management of movable and immovable assets (rental and other income).
- Providing strategic input to the School Management and Governing Body.
- Risk management and evaluation of all financial processes and procedures.
- Management of the financial office.
- Involvement in fundraising projects.
- Reviewing, applying, and keeping all financial policies up to date.
- Managing software applications, identifying shortcomings, and recommending possible upgrades
