A private equity-backed multinational firm based in Cape Town is seeking a Finance Assistant to handle transaction processing, payments, and financial controls for their Head Office.
In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring the smooth operation of financial processes and controls. The Finance Assistant will be responsible for various tasks that contribute to the accuracy and efficiency of the financial functions at the Head Office. You will engage with departmental directors and management accountants, working collaboratively to ensure timely and accurate processing of transactions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily bank postings
- Processing purchase invoices
- Maintaining supplier records
- Preparing payment runs and month-end accruals
- Reconciling accounts and assisting in cash flow forecasting

Key qualifications and experience for the Finance Assistant:
- Bachelor of Accounting / Finance Honours (strong academic record)
- Actively pursuing a professional accounting qualification is preferred
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Proficient in MS Office, especially Excel
Key duties for the Finance Assistant include but are not limited to:
- Conduct daily bank postings and reconciliations for over ten accounts in Euro and GBP
- Process purchase invoices each month, ensuring accurate coding by supplier, chart of accounts, department, project, VAT, and entity
- Serve as the primary contact for departmental directors regarding purchase invoice approvals
- Handle the daily processing of expense invoices
- Set up and maintain supplier records, including bank details and contact information
- Prepare month-end accruals for unapproved invoices
- Execute weekly payment runs for suppliers, loans, interest, and expenses, while implementing pre-payment controls through balance reviews and bank account checks
- Reconcile supplier statements for accuracy and conduct weekly reviews of the accounts payable ledger with the management accountant
- Perform monthly credit card reconciliations and postings
- Generate monthly sales invoices for Head Office service recharges, specific recharges, and annual invoices for group insurance and flexible benefits
- Distribute monthly customer statements to group entities
- Manage credit control for accounts receivable invoices, following up on debts over 30 days old
- Assist with weekly cashflow forecasting
- Reconcile accounts payable ledgers with accounts receivable ledgers of group counterparties
