Technical Officer (Private Sector Grants) required by the NI Housing Executive in Newry
Your new company
The services of Hays have been retained by our client, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive, to recruit a Technical Officer (Private Sector Grants) on an ongoing temporary contract basis to work from their offices in Newry.
Your new role
You will be responsible for all technical aspects of applications pertaining to Grants and Energy Efficiency Schemes, including inspection of the property, preparation of a schedule of works, costing, and recommending payment for completed works. This will entail:
Carrying out a technical assessment of properties for which a grant application has been received, preparing a costed schedule of works specifying items to be grant aided in accordance with PSIS Technical guidance.Preparing a standard solution and scheme design to meet the requirements of the Occupational Therapists recommendation for internal works required under Disabled Facilities Grants.Considering the most satisfactory course of action in determining the type of grant and work to be carried out for all mandatory, discretionary and energy efficiency grants.Ensuring that plans submitted in support of individual applications meet the technical requirements of the scheme.Costing individual applications using the approved Schedule of Rates and in compliance with the PSIS costing policy.Inspecting works to ensure that they are completed to a satisfactory standard and to the NIHE specification, recommending payment hereafter.
What you'll need to succeed
To be considered for this position, you must meet at least one of the following criteria:
A degree in Building Studies (or equivalent) with 1 year relevant experience;
A BTEC Higher Diploma in Building Studies (or equivalent) with 2 years relevant experience;
A minimum of 4 years relevant experience.
Technical officers within the grants department require a high degree of knowledge of domestic construction and associated services. The role also requires good knowledge of computer packages, especially Word & Excel.
Ideally, you should also have the ability to sketch and create drawings using NIHE's digital drawing package.

Whilst this role is offered on an ongoing temporary contract basis, it is envisaged that a permanent role will be recruited in due course.
