Introduction
We are looking to recruit a Sustainability Specialist to work within the Group Corporate Affairs department of Clicks Group Services. The role will be based at Clicks Head Office in Cape Town and will report to the Head of Corporate Affairs.
Main purpose
- To implement and monitor specific sustainability initiatives, goals, objectives, or strategies in addition to ensuring continuous monitoring or tracking of sustainability indicators, to report on investors ESG related issues as well as provide technical support for sustainability programs or issues.
- To provide research reporting and benchmarking of key trends and translating best practices into key insights for the group and act as the knowledge support.
- To execute plans that will ensure the ability for the company to continue its critical operations and deliver products and services, especially during or after a disruptive event.
Job objectives
- Support the development of goals, objectives, initiatives, or strategies.
- To support the development of corporate sustainability strategies that reflect the environmental, social, and governance issues.
- To implement TCFD and carbon neutrality commitments and ESG reporting frameworks, which encompass the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and JSE sustainability and climate change guidelines.
- To develop and execute strategies to reduce carbon emissions across operations.
- To facilitate the coordination of the Group Sustainability practices, aligned to the sustainability strategy. (This incorporates the ESG benchmarking against sustainability indexes.)
- Track sustainability indicators
- To periodically review and analyse sustainability performance and reporting and provide the findings to be scrutinised/ evaluated to drive informed decision making.
- Reporting
- To support the production of an annual corporate sustainability report and ESG data book, including data collection, measurement and analysis, and content development.
- To track progress towards the established goals and report on sustainable development goals key indicators.
- To provide inputs around the improvement of the implementation of sustainability reporting processes and set annual milestones in keeping with best practice principles.
- To measure, monitor, and report on carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions.
- To provide input into investor disclosures (CDP, S&P and FTSE Russell) in liaison with Group Legal and Finance (are they in keeping with JSE disclosure guidelines).
- To respond to investor ESG concerns or issues.
- To provide inputs towards the Social and Ethics Committee and the Board Reports on ESG matters.
- Technical support for sustainability programs
- To follow-up, track and monitor on the initiatives adopted by the Group in effecting the targeted ESG matrix.
- To conduct environmental impact assessments and audits to identify areas for improvement.
- To recommend corrective measures on items of an anomalous nature (including the follow-up, track and monitor and make recommendation for implementation considerations).
- Develop and implement sustainable practices, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, carbon emission reduction and responsible sourcing.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local, national and international environmental regulation and standards.
- To develop and maintain relationship with relevant internal and external stakeholders in order embed sustainability accountability within the business.
- To develop networks with ESG partners and peers to build long-term relationships and promote collaboration opportunities.
- To develop and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and industry bodies to ensure that the Group operations are within legislative requirements.
Training and Awareness
- Conduct employee training programmes to promote awareness and understanding of sustainable practices.
Business Continuity
- To coordinate the development of BC policies.
- To update BCM policies and procedures in keeping with best practice.
- To accept accountability for the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the Business Continuity Management System.
- To coordinate the activities amongst various BCM work streams.
- To ensure that essential BCMS information is identified and available.
- To manage, evaluate and coordinate exercising of the Business Continuity capability.
- To monitor and maintain BCP Awareness and Training programs.
- To conduct regular BC testing and provide reports on the key outcomes and opportunity areas.

Job Experience:
- 8-10 years organisational sustainability experience. At least 5 years of these should be in a strategy and reporting role (e.g. SDGs, TCFD, GR4 guidelines, FTSE Russell4 Good)
- 3 years data analysis interpretation and dissemination experience.
- 2 years networking experience
- ESG analytics
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (essential) in Business or Environmental studies (preferable)
