A critical part of this work is ensuring that entrepreneurs maintain accurate monthly financial accounts. Experience has shown that many entrepreneurs lack skills in this area and have weak or incomplete financial records.
In this initiative Fetola are trialling a new accounting system specifically designed for non-financial managers and entrepreneurs. It is an easy to use and simple to understand system for which no previous accounting experience is required. This pilot will test the effectiveness of SMEasy for emerging small businesses, identify challenges and benchmark before and after progress.
What will you do: You will work onsite within a few small businesses on one of our programmes to provide your allocated entrepreneurs with basic account administration support as they implement their new SMEasy accounting systems. Once trained, you will provide on-site administrative book-keeping support, assist in set-up of new system and production of accurate monthly accounts. You will be working with business owners who may not have a strong accounting background. For this you will be required to:
- Attend and pass SMEasy system training
- Set up the new SMEasy accounting system for each SME
- Upload historical financial data into the new system
- Upload current financial data for up to 6 months (until the system is fully operational and entrepreneur can take over the role)
- Provide hands-on training to entrepreneur on how to use the system and ensure smooth hand-over.
- Conduct ongoing review of financial data to ensure accuracy.
- Identify and correct any discrepancies or errors in financial records.
- Raise issues with Fetola project manager as appropriate
Requirements - University degree in Accounting; Finance, BCom or similar
- Able to read and make sense of financial data
- Data analytical skills and strong MS Excel capabilities
- Advanced computer skills including MS Office Suite
- Must be relatable, personable and customer focused.
- Willingness to travel within province
- Excellent spoken, written and interpersonal communication., including telephone etiquette.
- Performance-driven with a commitment to continual learning and improvement
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to work towards tight deadlines.
- Previous working/internship experience is an added advantage
- Own transport and license an added advantage
