We are seeking a highly skilled Head of Communications to lead and manage both internal and external communication strategies for a clinical research network across Africa. This role will shape the company’s public image, build relationships with key stakeholders, and ensure clear communication of complex scientific and clinical information. The Head of Communications will collaborate closely with senior leadership, research teams, and external partners to boost the visibility and reputation of the organization.
We are specifically looking for a strategic thinker with a passion for healthcare in Africa, strong interpersonal skills, and a proactive approach to communication opportunities.
This position offers the opportunity to work remotely with occasional travel to clinical trial sites and partner locations.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (required); advanced degree in Communications, Healthcare Communications, or Public Relations is a plus.
8-10 years of experience in communications or public relations, ideally within healthcare, pharmaceutical, or clinical research industries.
Proven experience in creating and executing successful communications strategies.
Expertise in media relations, crisis communication, and stakeholder engagement within regulated industries.
Strong writing and editing skills, ability to simplify complex scientific concepts for various audiences, established relationships with healthcare and scientific media, proficiency with digital communication tools, and project management abilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive internal and external communication strategies in line with the company’s mission and business objectives.
Public Relations: Serve as the company's spokesperson and manage media relationships, representing the organization at industry events and public forums.
Internal Communications: Design and manage internal communication strategies to keep employees informed and engaged, working with HR and leadership teams.
Content Management: Oversee the creation of high-quality content for the website, social media, and marketing, ensuring clarity and alignment with the company’s voice and goals.
Brand Management: Ensure consistency across all company communications and maintain brand integrity across platforms.
Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with patients, healthcare professionals, regulatory bodies, and other partners to strengthen the organization’s reputation.
Crisis Communication: Develop and execute crisis communication plans to manage potential reputational risks.
