We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records while providing exceptional service to our clients.
Purpose of the Role
As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for processing accounting records into our computerized system, resulting in an accurate and complete monthly set of books. Your duties will include:
- Completing annual financial statements for close corporations, trusts, sole proprietors, and body corporates.
- Preparing working paper files and statutory returns such as PAYE, UIF, SDL, VAT, and Workman’s Compensation.
- Issuing annual IRP5s and EMP501s.
- Directly liaising with clients to address their accounting needs.
- Working independently while your work is reviewed by the Manager or Partner.
Academic Qualifications Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in Commerce or a diploma in Accounting (or equivalent).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in an accounting practice.
Skills and Competencies Required
Skills:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (English/Afrikaans/Xhosa is advantageous).
- Excellent report writing abilities.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Problem-solving capabilities and supervisory skills to lead junior accountants.
Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of accounting, taxation, and auditing principles.
- Decisive with a keen attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment.
Required Computer Package Experience
- Proficiency in Pastel , Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), Windows , Caseware , and payroll systems.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Your key performance indicators will include:
- Supervising the processing of client information including cheques, receipts, sales invoices, purchase invoices, and petty cash.
- Performing bank reconciliations and maintaining fixed asset registers.
- Processing journal entries for depreciation, provisions, interest, salaries, stock adjustments, etc.
- Reconciling debtors' and creditors' statements.
- Analyzing trial balances for discrepancies and discussing results with clients.
- Preparing draft financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting practices.
- Calculating PAYE/UIF/SDL levies and VAT while ensuring compliance with statutory returns.
