The Career Development Coordinator is responsible for helping Global Education Center students prepare for and find local and remote jobs. The position ensures that students are not only well-prepared for their immediate roles but also equipped for future higher-level opportunities that will ultimately provide a Church Living Wage. This position involves collaborating with numerous stakeholders fostering essential professional skills. The coordinator will play a pivotal role in shaping students' professional trajectories, working toward a future where they are positioned for success in increasingly advanced roles within their chosen fields. Additionally, this position requires a dynamic individual capable of coordinating efforts with our Career Advisory Board, Employer Relations Manager, Success Network, CES Schools, and external partners to facilitate job opportunities for students.
The Career Development Coordinator has a dotted line reporting relationship to the GEC Manager and a solid line reporting relationship to the Director of Career Development at BYU-Pathway headquarters. The Career Development Coordinator provides daily support to students and staff. The position will help students access support services to identify their strengths, goals, and talents in view of helping them find work. They do this by connecting job seekers to technical training or educational programs to help students develop their skills, helping students hone their interview skills, assisting with resumes and job applications, and building relationships with local and remote employers.
Job Opportunities:
- Collaborate with the Career Advisory Board and Employer Relations Manager to generate an ample number of work opportunities.
- Partner closely with the Employer Relations Manager at BYU-Pathway to establish and maintain strong relationships with employers.
- Work with student committees and Welfare and Self-Reliance Services to hold job fairs at the GEC and/or the local area.
- Develop a systematic approach for gathering feedback from employers regarding the performance and preparedness of students.
- Conduct regular check-ins with employers to understand their perspectives on student contributions and areas for improvement.
- Work collaboratively with BYU-Pathway to implement feedback loops, ensuring continuous improvement in the quality of job placements.
- Utilize employer insights to inform training programs aligning student development with industry expectations.
Student Qualification:
- Identify students eligible for and seeking for work, directing them towards suitable opportunities.
- Develop processes and workflows showing the path for students to move from enrollment to work-study jobs to higher-level positions.
- Facilitate opportunities for students to practice and improve their interview skills.
Student Onboarding and Survey Management:
- Coordinate with the Success Network, including mentors, missionaries, and instructors, to facilitate the onboarding process for new students.
- Ensure completion of the job registration survey by all students and track the data effectively.
Student Development and Progression:
- Work with the BYU-Pathway virtual career center, utilizing digital information sources, counseling services, employment groups, and coordination with the Success Network.
- Guide students toward the work-readiness badging program to enhance students' professional skills.
- When students are prepared, develop processes to facilitate handoff to degree-specific verticals.
Placement Coordination:
- Work closely with third-party social staffers, funding sources, and Success Network partners to ensure successful placement of selected students in jobs.
- Collaborate with the Product Manager responsible for the development of placement platforms, ensuring alignment with the organization's goals and student needs.
- Provide input on platform features and functionalities, offering insights into the specific requirements of career development initiatives.
- Conduct regular assessments to verify that the platform is effectively meeting the demands of students, employers, and internal stakeholders.
Goal Setting and Reporting Systems:
- Establish measurable goals for job placement success and student progression.
- Collaborate with the Institutional Research department at BYU-Pathway to establish PowerBI reporting systems for tracking goals and monitoring student progress through job responsibilities and badging.
- Implement a tracking mechanism to monitor the number of students actively participating in jobs with a specific breakdown by the employer.
- Regularly analyze and report on key metrics related to student enrollment by employer, providing insights that contribute to strategic decision-making and program optimization.
Manage Personnel:
- Provide direction and counsel to student employees and contractors.
Education: This position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field and at least five years of professional post-bachelor degree experience.
Experience: The most successful candidates will have experience with career development, employer relations, training, development, operations, and communications. The position requires a professional demeanor to represent the institution in a manner that builds positive relations and image with a variety of constituents.
Skills: Must have excellent time management skills, public speaking skills, problem-solving skills and both verbal and written communication skills. Proficient in word processing and presentation software. Knowledgeable about learning management systems, instructional design, and e-learning platforms. Ability to handle multiple assignments and assess and analyze data. Ability to operate media equipment such as projectors and personal computers. Knowledge of traditional and modern training methods and techniques. Exceptional organization skills, leadership and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with a team and have attention to detail.
