Project Accountant (Mining Industry) - Gauteng, Rosebank
A specialist mining client is looking to employ a Project Accountant based at their offices in Rosebank. This position will report to the Group Financial Controller.
The Project Accountant will be an important member of the finance team that is responsible for all group supporting services, including Accounting, Treasury, Procurement, Legal, HR, IT & Systems.
The person needs to be an IT-focused Accountant with experience in finance systems implementation.
In addition to general support in management and statutory accounting, they will be expected to take responsibility for the delivery of specific projects within the finance team to enhance financial reporting and control structures.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide general support to the finance team for regular financial reporting, including but not limited to:
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly consolidated management accounts, providing insight into financial results through financial analysis and structured commentary.
- Preparation of bi-annual consolidated statutory accounts, including supporting schedules, and assisting with the annual audit.
- Preparation of annual budgets.
- Preparation of short-term cash flow forecasts for treasury management.
- Preparation of tax returns and associated filings.
Manage the delivery, under the direction of the GFC and Group CFO, of system improvement projects, including but not limited to:
- Automation of procurement processes including invoice processing and approval.
- Integrating payroll and people management data into formalized structures linking directly to accounting databases.
- Improving system and process documentation, including risk management analysis and reporting.
- Creating bespoke financial reports for internal and external business requirements from financial and non-financial data.
- Identifying problem areas and presenting recommendations for improvements.
- Long-term migration to an integrated ERP financial management platform.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CIMA diploma or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification will be beneficial.
5 years' previous experience as a Management Accountant, or related accounting experience. Experience in growth-oriented businesses preferred.
Proficiency in financial Reporting Software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office. Advanced Excel working knowledge and experience, including financial modeling experience, is essential.
Exceptional financial analytical skills and strong communication skills, with an ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to identify and implement process improvements.
High level of integrity and ethics.
Lots of energy and keenness to experience multi-levels of financial & accounting functionality.
Needs to embrace change management, not just in Finance, but also in terms of the business & industry.
Remuneration & Benefits:
Salary / CTC per year - R720,000 - R840,000
