We have an amazing opportunity for a Payroll Specialist to be based in Umhlanga, Durban. Do you think you have what it takes to be our newest Purple Star?
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for the administration of the company’s payroll systems whilst maintaining strict confidentiality standards. Responsible for timely and accurate delivery of payroll and related client service, including statutory compliance, recordkeeping and reporting.

You Bring:
- 5 years in a payroll related position.
- 3 years in a supervisory or assistant manager role.
- Payroll and payroll tax related training.
What You’ll Do For The Brand:
- Providing excellent customer service to the Payroll Leads, managers and team members who have payroll-related questions and resolving any issues in a timely and efficient manner.
- Providing support and query resolution for the team, ensuring all queries are attended within 24 hours. Document all Payroll Improvement Queries, escalate and ensure all are fully and timeously resolved.
- Ensure statutory compliance:
- Ensure legislative compliance for South Africa and African payrolls.
- Ensure all registrations are correct and timeously maintained.
- Oversee the statutory submissions and reconciliations ensuring they are submitted correctly and timeously as required.
- Work with Team Leads and Specialists where required to ensure SARS, UIF, DOL, statutory and external providers recons, submissions and queries and SARS requests are resolved correctly and timeously.
- Oversee the Payroll Team Leads:
- Ensuring the payroll input, processing and payments are timeous, complete, correct, compliant and that procedures and controls are adhered to as required.
- Responsible for overseeing, monitoring, training, performance coaching, supervising and discipline, including leave and hours approval.
- Oversee the Reconciliation Clerks:
- Ensure all required reconciliations and reports are prepared timeously and accurately and reviewed with good attention to detail.
- Processing senior management and/or other payrolls as required:
- Responsible for all activities related to payroll processing.
- Preparing, maintaining and processing senior management and or other payrolls accurately and timeously.
- To ensure all transactions are authorized by appropriate managers.
- Ensure taxes, employee benefits and external payments are paid timeously.
- Banking:
- Oversee, check and release salary, external and ad-hoc payments ensuring correct, timeous and properly recorded and approved payments as required.
- Reporting and Reconciliation:
- Overseeing, preparation, review and detailed checking of consolidated, monthly and other payroll packs, journals, reconciliations, statutory, costing and reports generated by the Payroll team as required, ensuring correctness and timeous completion.
- Preparation and collation of salary, monthly and other packs and ad hoc reports, analysis and reconciliations as required.
- Analytics, checks, reviews and reporting as required.
- Work closely with the Human Resources department and Finance to research and resolve problems, perform scheduled activities, prepare and maintain accurate records.
- Stay current with Payroll software systems updates, functionality and new functionalities that are released in the system and communicate these to the department.
- Keeping up to date with changes in payroll and ensuring it is communicated to the Team Leads.
- Encourage practice of the companies’ values.
- Performs other and related duties, ad hoc projects, training and general admin as required.
