Buyer for Consumable Stores Department

Eskort, South Africa’s leading pork manufacturer with a processing plant in Heidelberg Gauteng and in Estcourt KZN, is currently looking for a Buyer for the Consumable Stores department in Estcourt KZN. The position will report to the General Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
Qualifications:
Grade 12 with Mathematics preferably.
Experience:
2-3 years experience within a production environment. Previous experience in buying will be an advantage.
Knowledge Required:
Attention to details.
Skills Required:
Good communication, negotiation, and buying skills.
Main Duties:
- Buying and controlling stock for minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Ensure to take lead time into consideration when ordering both local and imported raw materials.
- Manage subordinates daily to ensure all tasks are fulfilled according to procedures.
- Analyze requisitions from supervisors to clarify that orders need to be placed.
- Work closely with the Stores supervisor to ensure adequate stock levels according to lead times and usages.
- Report urgent issues regarding stock levels, supply issues, stores staff issues, and production quality issues directly to the General Manager.
- Ensure staff follow FIFO rotation regularly.
- Conduct spot checks to ensure correct labels and lot numbers are on items and that traceability is up to date upon arrival.
- Collaborate with management on current pricing and new increase trends from various suppliers.
- Be aware of the usages of each item, the supplier, and lead time using the Meat Matrix system and stock reports developed by the buyer.
- Meet with suppliers and management regularly to resolve issues and discuss usage trends.
- Assist and guide the team to resolve stock fault issues and revert to suppliers for corrective action, ensuring the production team has sufficient stock in the interim.
- Oversee and manage the stock take process monthly.
- Maintain good communication between stores and production, and stores and management.
- Ensure all staff follow procedures, SOPs, and health and safety rules at all times.
- Be prepared to work flexible hours, including overtime when necessary.
- Possess people handling skills, be a team player, and apply discipline when necessary.
- Proficient use of email and computer.
- Ensure hyster inspections are conducted and check sheets are completed daily.
- Report any hyster deviations to the engineering department.
- Work efficiently under pressure.
- Engage well with customers, suppliers, management, and staff.
