African Payroll Controller
A leading Industrial Services company is looking for an African Payroll Controller to join their successful team.
Role Summary:
African Payroll Controller will be responsible for the full payroll function of various African countries (Mauritius, Ghana, Namibia, Zambia, Mozambique, Swaziland, Angola, Botswana, Uganda, Kenya).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Full payroll function of various African countries payroll.
- Timely & accurate capturing of payroll input data.
- Adherence to payroll calendars and deadlines.
- Liaise with customers and third parties on payroll queries within 48 hours and provide regular feedback to clients.
- Understanding of payroll calculations and able to do payslip interpretations.
- Tracking employee absence.
- Ensure that all controls are in place to process payroll, third-party, and associated payments effectively.
- Examine payroll reports before distributing them to stakeholders.
- Prepare all monthly reports required.
- Audits and self-audit conducted on payroll data vs source documents.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of processes.
- Compliance to all internal controls.
- Controls to be accurately and timely executed.
- Evidence of control checks and payslip simulation to be archived as per archive policy.
- Assist in internal and external audit process.
- Adheres to legislative governance, process & services standards of each country.
- Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits.
- Identify errors, report them, and raise concerns with Sage, ensuring that the necessary remedial action is taken or that the situation is escalated as needed.
- Compliance to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Desired Experience & Qualification
Qualifications:
- Matric/Grade 12.
- Payroll Diploma.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years related working experience in full payroll function.
- Knowledge of SAGE 300 Payroll system (mandatory).
- Knowledge of Document Management Systems.
- Microsoft Excel – Advanced level (mandatory).
- Basic understanding of accounting principles.
Additional Requirements:
- Knowledge of African countries' legislation and conditions of employment (mandatory).
- Assertive and deadline driven.
- Strong work ethic.
- Experience processing multiple payrolls simultaneously (fortnightly and monthly).
- Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Able to multitask while effectively managing timelines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
