About this career opportunity...
We have an opportunity for a Professional Senior Structural Engineer to become a permanent member of our creative and friendly Property, Science, Industry and Technology team in South Africa. You will be based in Johannesburg and be a key part of our wider South African multidisciplinary, combined team. Our projects are local and global and will allow you to work and succeed in an international, multi-cultural business environment.
The role involves inter-office working, skills development and knowledge transfer between Arup colleagues across the continent and region. You will play a part in the ever-increasing digital transformation of our business, seeking new ways to increase our efficiency through automation and to offer new services to our clients through our integrated digital approach to design.
Responsibilities:
- The candidate should have sufficient exposure on medium to large scale property projects as a structural engineer.
- You should have managed small to medium size teams and have strong technical knowledge in structural engineering and a broad range of hands-on skills of different structural forms, construction materials, design stages, and project sectors.
- The candidate should also have skills in working within a multidisciplinary engineering team and have an appreciation for the role and interactions of all engineering services to execute a project.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have had exposure in the healthcare and technology industry and are conversant and comfortable playing a civil lead role in addition to the structure lead role.
Is this role right for you?
We are looking for the following skills:
- Be a registered Professional Engineer via ECSA or equivalent with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience.
- Delivers own work, always in connection with other related work streams and broader goals of the group or project.
- Ability to plan and manage client and external relationships.
- Be conversant with design codes and guiding industry analysis and design software.
- Have strong commercial awareness and skills of predicting, planning and managing resource requirements to achieve financial targets and to meet deadlines.
