Responsibilities:
Safety, Food Safety and Staff Management
Ensure full compliance to all national OHS Act requirements and company Occupational Health and Safety & Food Safety regulations and policies.
Responsible and accountable for maintenance of the "5 s" in your department.
Action all Internal and External Safety Audit action plans relating to your section.
Manage direct reports according to the basic employment regulations, company policies and prescribed demonstrated HR and operations best practices; (absenteeism, safety, food safety, production and quality procedures, grievances etc.)
Attend daily production meetings providing input where required necessary.
Coordinate the activities of the team, ensuring that labour is utilised effectively and that objectives are communicated to aid in team and individual motivation.
Assess needs regarding the training and development plan, ensuring goals and objectives are communicated and reviewed to motivate, develop and retain staff.
Complete and sign off time sheets for the team and provide records to the production manager.
Assist or relieve operators, production operators and forklift driver as and when necessary.
Ad-hoc duties from time to time at the request of the Factory Manger or the Production Group Leader.
Productivity Improvement and Implementation:
Ensure achievement of target World Class Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) levels by the identification and elimination and documentation of "8 waste/loss buckets" areas of Lean Manufacturing.
Review daily production reports /data for GPM and OEE Reporting before submission to the Production Group Leader.
Verify all information to be correct on a shift report and ensure that data inputs and raw material actuals balance to ERP SAP and shopware records.
Effectively manage inventory levels in liaison with the Warehouse department.
Optimize labour complement and utilization to give best quality of product at minimum cost and line savings based on up-to-date plant diagnostics.
Ensure effective utilization of all lean manufacturing tools, e.g. mistake proofing, SMED, pull systems, Root Cause Problem Solving, optimized changeover principles.
Assist with continuous improvement projects till successful completion.
Prepare recipes, labels, spices and vegetables for hand over to Pre-weigher.
Collect required ingredients from raw material section using a folk lift.
Supervise the daily scale check and ensure scale is in a good condition.
Check that the cooking area pots have the required recipe on the screen (Scada).
Inform cookers when a batch is ready to be taken to the cooking area.
Monitor that the sequence of cooking procedures is followed correctly.
Supervise the cooking process; ensuring recipe, temperature and ingredients are correct.
Sign off each batch of ingredients released.
Capture stock movement in the system in accordance with standard procedure.
Keep accurate record of all batches released and used for each shift.
Perform handover process to the next shift.
Quality Control, Inspections, PCD's and QM Systems:
Ensure all products are manufactured to Company Quality process and procedure and product specifications as per production plan requirements. Evidence of any deviation to be corrected immediately.
In partnership with materials procurement and quality, ensure inputs to the manufacturing processes consistently meet requirements, including mutually agreed specifications and all the specified BOM specifications.
Ensure all line operators are completing PCDs and related documentation correctly and timeously if assistance required liaise with QA.
Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process control sheets in compliance with Quality Management Systems.
Participate in resolving customer complaints with QA to improve both the production process and enable an understanding of customer requirements.
Reports and Internal Relations:
Ensure daily reports are submitted on time.
Report scrap levels daily and submit the information to the production group leader for further review.
Ensure stock take is conducted when required.
Provide service excellence and promote teamwork, personal responsibility, and ownership.
Attend production meetings to assist production Group Leaders in the planning of the day-to-day schedule.
Inventory:
Ensure Shop Floor Control and transfer of RM & FG are completed daily.
Participate in the financial year end stock take.
Internal audits and managing findings:
Assist the Production Group Leader in ensuring internal audits are conducted for BRC/GMP/5S audits and involve teams in improvement actions.
Drive the established KPIS in your team to monitor BRC/GMP/5S status, quality incidents or failures.
Requirements:
Matric or recognised equivalent qualification.
Must be able to efficiently operate a PC, and have basic word, excel, powerpoint, outlook exp.
Numeracy and Literacy Proficient.
Mechanical engineering N3 N6 advantageous
Counterbalance Forklift License Essential
Experience in a manufacturing environment in progressively responsible roles.
Supervisory Management or equivalent would be a distinct advantage.
Experience as a key operator, 2-3 yrs
FMCG/Manufacturing experience, 2 - 3 years
Minimum 2 years experience within a Manufacturing / production related facility.
Must understand LEAN principles.
Knowledge of ERP System preferably SAP would be advantageous but extensive training will be given to the company.
