A private equity-backed multinational firm based in Cape Town is seeking a Senior Management Accountant to lead their head office accounting and compliance operations.
In this pivotal role, the Senior Management Accountant will oversee key financial activities, including transaction processing, financial controls, and accounting. You will lead a small team and ensure the production of timely, accurate management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations, while providing detailed analysis and commentary for the leadership team. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with department heads and directors, supporting strategic planning and cost management across the business.
As the deputy business partner for cost centres, you will play a critical role in the financial planning process and manage group loan transactions. The role requires ensuring compliance with tax, VAT, and IFRS9 regulations, as well as liaising with external advisors. Additionally, you will develop and document finance processes and procedures, contributing to the growth and scalability of the organization.
Key qualifications and experience for the Senior Management Accountant:
- Minimum 3 years of industry experience
- Advantage given to candidates with exposure to highly acquisitive businesses, private equity funded businesses, business partnering / or professional services
- Proven experience in stakeholder management and communication with senior leaders
- Proven ability to lead and develop internal processes and procedures
Key duties for the Senior Management Accountant include but are not limited to:
- Manage the Management Accountant and Finance Assistant, ensuring efficient transaction processing and robust financial controls
- Produce monthly management accounts, including a clean balance sheet with reconciliations and departmental P&Ls
- Conduct monthly P&L analysis coupled with variance analysis and commentary for department directors, focusing on key metrics like month-on-month and year-on-year performance
- Ensure timely reconciliation of external loan balances and compliance with IFRS9
- Oversee WHT clearance for foreign lenders, manage group recharges, and process group loan transactions, ensuring adherence to transfer pricing policies
- Prepare VAT returns and assist in tax compliance deliverables, liaising with external advisors on tax-sensitive issues
- Develop and document head office finance processes and provide holiday cover for the Senior Management Accountant
