At PwC, our people in tax services focus on providing advice and guidance to clients on tax planning, compliance, and strategy. These individuals help businesses navigate complex tax regulations and optimise their tax positions.
Those in tax controversy and dispute resolution at PwC will assist clients in managing tax controversies and resolving disputes with tax authorities. In this field, you will provide advice and representation during audits, investigations, and appeals, aiming to achieve favourable outcomes for clients while maintaining compliance with tax laws.

Role Summary:
PwC is seeking an ambitious tax professional to join its Tax Controversy and Dispute Resolution (TCDR) team, which forms a specialist team within the firm’s larger national Corporate and International Tax practice.
Qualifications / Certifications required:
Relevant professional qualification (Admitted attorney and/or Postgraduate studies in Tax). A post-graduate tax qualification would be ideal.
Experience required:
1-3 years’ experience in a tax advisory environment with dedicated and notable experience in managing tax disputes for or against the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
Responsibilities of role:
- Assist in advising a portfolio of corporate or high net worth clients on complex and uncertain tax dispute matters in a team context.
- Drafting of opinions/objections/appeals/VDP’s for clients as well as submitting to SARS and corresponding with SARS.
- Research of complex tax dispute/administrative related issues.
- Liaison with various stakeholders in a tax dispute e.g. SARS, Counsel, subject-matter specialists.
- Interpretation and application of substantive and procedural tax legislation.
- Assist with the implementation of agreed advice with SARS.
- Assistance with billings, debtors and assignment budgeting.
- Compliance with risk management procedures.

Independence requirements to be taken into consideration:
Standard PwC risk management restrictions apply.
Industry experience required:
Relevant knowledge of, and experience in dealing with, tax administrative matters and SARS are required. Prior employment within a corporate advisory environment (e.g. Big-4 auditing firm and/or reputable corporate law firm) is preferred.
