Job Title: Trainee Bookkeeper
Reports to: Senior Accountant
Contract Details: Permanent and Full-time
Salary Details: Negotiable: will be discussed in detail with shortlisted candidates during the interview, around R8,000 – R10,000 pm

Job Purpose:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join our accounting firm located in Midrand. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing the financial records, ensuring accuracy, and providing essential support to the team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently.
This position is also an ideal opportunity for you to serve and complete your articleship (CA/SAIPA/CIA ACCA/) while gaining practical working experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work under the supervision and direction of the line manager.
- Assist with the month-end management accounts.
- Prepare bank reconciliations.
- Process financial transactions into SAGE Pastel Accounting systems.
- Assist with year-end audit process.
- Prepare reports/cost analysis in Excel/MS Word.
- Perform day-to-day bookkeeping duties, including maintaining and updating financial records, data entry, bank reconciliations, ledgers, and journals.
- Manage both creditors and debtors, including invoicing and debt collections.
- Attend to SARS matters, e.g., VAT 201, IRP6, IT 14 501, compliance with SARS, CSD, COIDA.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role assigned by the Line Manager.
- Attend to client satisfaction.
- Perform administration-related work.
Desired Experience & Qualification:
- Matric.
- Experience in Sage Pastel accounting or related software.
- Knowledge of MS Office packages.
- Completed tertiary qualification in a related field of study is advantageous (e.g., Bookkeeping Diploma/Bcom/Btech). Studying towards advanced accounting qualifications is preferred.
- Two (2) years of previous bookkeeping experience.
- Working knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to quickly learn and utilize industry-specific accounting packages.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multitask across different types of accounting-related projects.
