Our company is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Cost Accountant to join our team on a maternity cover.
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
To provide cost accounting, financial, administration and legal support to the company’s general management. The incumbent ensures reliability and accuracy of the financial statements, in order to comply with all relevant accounting, tax and reporting standards, both from a local regulation and from a Consolidated Group standpoint.
Duties & Responsibilities
JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS
- Value of Total Purchases of raw material – varying up to R25M plus annually on average.
- Value of other materials and equipment – Approx. R12m annually.
- Geographical Areas/Zones – South Africa at plant and project level.
- Oversee and audit the company cost accounting processes and procedures, ensuring reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of production costing processes.
- Analyze inventory accounts and cycle accounts/stock counts.
- Report on variances and inaccuracies in the cost accounting processes.
- Ensure reporting data is accurate and timely to meet Group reporting deadlines.
- Ensure compliance with statutory and legal requirements.
- Provide Management Accounting support to the Business.
- Act as 2x2 Cover for Financial Manager.
- Analyze data to make informed financial decisions.
- Identify variances and implement preventive controls.
Costing
- Evaluate Standard cost with moving average cost of Raw materials quarterly.
- Report on Production order variance for material, machine & labour hours.
- Calculate individual material production cost.
- Provide cost estimates on products as requested by Sales and Production.
- Review, update and release production cost on SAP based on BOM changes.
- Monthly verification of stock counts.
- Process stock adjustments based on stock count results.
- Prepare stock report reconciliation for management review.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations.
Control procedures
- Assist in the implementation of adequate internal control procedures.
- Ensure compliance with local and international bodies/rules (tax; accounting and reporting).
- Implement recommendations from Internal Audit in a timely manner.
- Review Project Costing reports.
- Meet and achieve all applicable HSEQ SOP’s for the Area.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Education and Experience requirements
- Minimum Relevant Financial/Cost Accounting Qualification or equivalent NQF 7/8 qualification.
- 3-5 years Cost Accounting/Financial management experience in a similar industry, with SAP modules.
- Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) structure.
- Advanced Excel skills for reporting and calculating purposes using large volumes of data.
- Experience in hands-on production processes.

- Ability to work accurately, consistently, and reliably to tight timetables.
- Team leader capable of being 2x2 Cover for the Financial Manager.
