Our client is a small boutique Asset Management company based in Cape Town. They are looking for a new resource; a young dynamic aspiring Equity Analyst who has a demonstrable passion for the financial markets – this is what we call the X-Factor. You would have a good finance degree and on the CFA path and you would be comfortable in a conversation about listed companies, also the macro-economic environment and all the commensurate variables that impact on the financial markets.
ROLE DESCRIPTION
Our client will expect you to conduct comprehensive global research and analysis of publicly traded real estate securities. The successful candidate will support fund management functions and is expected to progress to an investment management role in the short to medium term.
The ideal candidate should have at least 2 years of experience in a similar Analyst role (post articles or equivalent) and/ or be able to demonstrate a real understanding and passion for fundamental analysis. Experience in the real estate or investment industry is beneficial, however the candidate’s personal attributes will be the key differentiator as will all indicators of the X-Factor.
Our client is looking for an initiative-taking, diligent individual with strong numerical and critical thinking skills and a passion for analysing listed entities. The candidate must be an adaptive learner, capable of prioritizing tasks efficiently, and taking ownership of responsibilities. Excellent people skills are essential.
QUALIFICATIONS
Undergraduate financial degree (B.Comm / B.Bus Sci.)
Progress to completing or have completed a CFA, CA (SA), or CAIA
COMPUTER SKILLS
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Teams, PowerPoint…)
Experience with Refinitiv Workspace and / or Bloomberg Terminal
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Review company announcements and earnings results
Prepare individual company forecasts and valuations (financial modelling)
Propose and present investment opportunities
Conduct quantitative analysis
Perform attribution and performance analysis
Analyze company reports
Produce monthly and quarterly sector reports
Write client reports
Prepare and deliver client presentations and report backs
Support new business development initiatives
Participate in company management visits
The candidate will perform additional functions required to support the ongoing management and development of the business.
