Job Responsibilities
Control, manage, plan and co-ordinate Import Control, Export Control, and Road Freight.
- Effectively administer the full Shipping Controller role, including legal compliance and cost control, and shipments documentation.
- Co-ordinate and consolidate shipments from suppliers in the most cost-effective manner.
- Negotiate freight rates and sailing and flight schedules to ensure timely clearance and delivery.
- Track shipments regarding timelines, custom releases, or detentions.
- Assist with import & export quotations via sea and road.
- Advise on planned deliveries and warehouse intake.
- Assist accounts with relevant documents and signatures for payment of foreign and local invoices.
- Negotiate rates with various export agents, shipping lines, and road transporters.
- Negotiate transport and delivery of shipments via various modes of transport at the best rate.
- Track and trace the departure and arrival of shipments.
- Keep up to date with tariff consulting and custom regulations.
- Ensure shipment files are completed in accordance with SOP.
- Prepare reports on all pending shipments.
- Prepare status reports for management and clients.
- Perform general duties and ad hoc tasks as required.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- South African citizen and ID, residing in Johannesburg.
- Matric (Preference will be given to a candidate with related tertiary education).
- Diploma in Supply Chain Management/Logistics is preferable.
- Min 3-4 years’ experience in Sea freight.
- Excellent communication skills in English at all levels.
- Computer literate with good Excel skills.
- Exceptional confidentiality, attention to detail, and accuracy are essential.
