Turner / Fabricator required in Midrand, Johannesburg.
Dynamic manufacturer in Midrand is recruiting a Turner / Fabricator person that will work alongside maintenance staff to ensure that equipment is maintained and operational.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain existing equipment and systems:
- Fit, assemble, grind and shape metal parts and subassemblies to fabricate production machines and other equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, set up machines, select appropriate cutting tools, and monitor the machining process to ensure precision and quality.
- Perform tasks like measuring and inspecting finished parts, making adjustments to machine settings, and performing routine maintenance on the equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Do all preventative maintenance according to the job cards issued by the maintenance planner.
- Report any other equipment that needs a job card to the maintenance planner to ensure that the job card is created for the machine.
Inspect, troubleshoot and repair equipment and machinery:
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Know the machines and how to operate them to ensure all functions are working as designed.
- Repair machines or systems using the needed tools. Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Determine causes of operating errors and decide on corrective actions.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using correct hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
- Conduct fault finding on the plant as quickly as possible to reduce downtimes.
- Keep all manuals and drawings up to date; modify drawings and insert any technical information into the manuals as necessary.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Use the correct lifting equipment with the correct SWL when handling equipment.
Support maintenance and production to ensure sustainability:
- Meet with maintenance and production foremen and staff to discuss breakdowns and issues experienced in the plant.
- Communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates, providing information through various means.
- Make decisions and solve problems by analyzing information and evaluating results.
- Gather information from all relevant sources.
- Communicate with people outside the organization, representing the organization to external sources.
- Direct and train workers to install and maintain mechanical equipment.
- Conduct practical on-the-job training in the plants.
- Provide theoretical training in the training centre.
Admin, measure and reporting:
- Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs associated with the work.
- Complete all job cards from the maintenance planner with all required details.
- Record all work required and completed on the Preventative Maintenance platform.
Requirements:
- Qualified Fitter and Turner / Turner.
- N3 and above or Matric / Grade 12.
- At least 4 years’ experience in a manufacturing / engineering or mining environment.
- Able to interpret engineering drawings.
- Own vehicle.
- Reside within a radius of 20 kilometres from the Midrand area.
- Good communication skills.
