The role exists to support the delivery of the ERM Charter.
The role of the ERM function is to protect shareholder value by ensuring that all risks are managed within risk appetite.
The ERM function sets the policies and standards within which business is meant to operate and provides specialist expertise to the business to enable the embedding of risk management across the group.
This role will be based in either the Santam Bellville or Sandton offices.
What will make you successful in this role?
- Lead the team in driving the embedding of a risk management process to identify, mitigate, monitor, report and escalate key strategic and operational risks within the parameters of the Board’s risk appetite.
- Support the Head of ERM in monitoring the Group’s risk profile to ensure that key risks are managed, relevant action taken, and adequate controls have been implemented by management.
- Overall coordination and aggregation of all key risks within the Santam Group for Risk Committee reporting purposes to provide a summary and overview of Santam’s key risks.
- Track the implementation of the ERM plan. Escalate issues (timing, incorrect focus) with the Head of ERM.
- Obtain a good understanding of the external and internal business environment, including strategic and operational goals in order to evaluate and identify any new and emerging risks.
- Drive the analysis of operational events occurring throughout the Group and link to the overall risk profile per SBU and for Group.
- Validation of risk data in CURA to ensure risks and incidents are captured accurately. Escalation of issues to Head of ERM to drive with the ERM Managers accountable for relationships.
- Scanning the external environment for threats and opportunities that could affect the Santam group risk profile.
- Drive and coordinate regulatory submissions.
- End-to-end management of all governance documents (policies, charters, and frameworks). Including annual review and preparation for approval in the November board cycle.

- Business-related degree
- 10-15 years’ experience (role requires management skills).
