IHC SA is currently seeking to secure the services of a Mechanical Design Engineer to engineer innovative solutions for the mining, dredging and offshore markets. The successful candidate will require a broad range of knowledge and experience to draw on. You will be part of the project engineering team that designs innovative solutions based on client requirements and remain involved throughout the project life cycle to see the solutions implemented. The state-of-the-art equipment will enable our customers to improve on their operational efficiency, lower the cost per tonne and make their activities more sustainable. The Mechanical Design Engineer’s primary responsibility is the engineering design of bespoke mining equipment solutions and installations. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be working within a design team to deliver the required project outcomes and achieve Client satisfaction, within specified time, cost and quality constraints associated with projects allocated to him/her. In this regard, innovation and sound thinking based on experience are required. An accomplished skill level in 3D and 2D draughting is essential with a good understanding of strength of materials.
You will be responsible for:
- Carry out the development of specifications and reports including design basis documents, functional and technical specifications and design reports.
- Carry out calculations and FEM analyses.
- Carry out and participate in concept identification, development and trade-off processes.
- Carry out design and modelling activities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant rules and regulations, including Class Society and SHEQ.
- Provide engineering support and assistance to the project team during project fabrication, implementation and commissioning.
Job requirements:
- B-Tech / B. Sc / B. Eng degree in Mechanical or Mechatronic Engineering.
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
- Knowledge base and experience within the Mining, Oil and Gas, Mineral Processing or Heavy Engineering sectors.
- 3-4 years technical experience.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work demanding schedule and flexible hours, including after hours, in order to meet the required schedule.
