Our client is looking for a Head Of Finance to join their team. Reporting to the Financial Director and Chief Executive Officer, the Head of Finance will be responsible for providing strategic direction and financial management guidance to the organisation in order to achieve the operational and strategic objectives of the business and to ensure sustainable financial performance. The Head of Finance will be responsible for managing and assuming the leadership and heading up the following functions: Financial Management, Finance Administration, Clerical, Debtors, Creditors, Accounting, Internal Controls, Risk and Tax Management.
Responsibilities:
- day-to-day monitoring of financial operations within the company,
- ensuring the accurate and timeous flow of financial data to the company stakeholders and external regulators,
- preparing annual reports,
- meeting regulatory and statutory bodies,
- preparation for annual audits,
- developing and maintaining efficient accounting policies and procedures per the relative legislature and accounting standards,
- financial reporting,
- relationship management,
- staying abreast of technology,
- attending to special projects,
- cashflow management as well as the management and development of the finance team.
- Budgeting
- Leading the annual budgeting process to ensure accurate and timeous budgets are compiled.
- Prepare monthly analysis of income and expenditure against prior year and budget, providing explanations and business solutions to help mitigate the risks.
- Ensure all expenditure is tracked, reported and accruals are managed efficiently.
- Finance and related administration
- Implement and maintain accounting and administrative policies and procedures for financial activities including financial accounting and reporting.
- Understand and adhere to financial regulations and legislation.
- Ensure financial governance, internal controls and compliance to the Group's standards and reporting requirements are achieved in the specific timeline.
- Assist in providing accurate, timely and reliable financial information to the CEO to support the business in making strategic and operational decisions.
- Keep the CEO apprised of all financial-related matters that may impact the business on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
- Develop standard and new accounting procedures to improve financial operations efficiency.
- Present financial reports to board members, stakeholders, executives, and clients in the respective meetings.
- Hold team accountable to ensure all statutory payments (e.g. income tax, VAT) are made accurately and before deadlines to ensure our client's companies attract no penalties.
- Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met.
- Review financial data and prepare monthly and annual reports.
- Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company.Ensure sufficient systems and controls are in place to mitigate fraud and error and to detect any misstatements.
- Ensure the necessary information is available for the external auditors for the annual audit.
- Preparation and finalisation of the Annual Report to shareholders in line with best practices from industry peers.
- Cashflow management
- Update and track monthly cash flows to ensure that there is adequate cash available for the current needs of the business.
- Regular updates of the medium to long-term cash flows (10-year cash flow projections) to ensure that the company's long-term growth objectives can be achieved.
- Implement and monitor hedging strategy to ensure interest rate risk is managed.
- Project accounting and tracking
- Assist property management team by tracking large project expenditure, developments and refurbishments.
- Provide regular feedback to the operations team as to the cost versus budgets of the project expenses, regarding the initial budget as well as the latest QS report.
- Tenant billing, municipal, income and expenses
- Implement and maintain policies and procedures for the payment and recovery of municipal accounts as well as the monthly billing.
- Constantly improve these processes in response to changes in the business environment.
- Ensure that the queries arising from the recoveries and expenses are dealt with timely by the respective member of the finance team.
- Provide guidance and leadership on all municipal valuation queries that may arise.
- Proactively deal with any problems that may arise from the above.
- Relationship and reputation management
- Form a good working relationship with heads of departments, Senior Executives and Non-Executives.
- Relate to external parties in a manner that builds our client's brand and reputation as an organisation of integrity and efficiency.
- Information Technology
- Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes.
- Special Projects
- Assist the CEO by providing the necessary expertise and information when required for special projects.
- Provide strategic input and expertise to the CEO for due diligence and analysis of all acquisitions or internal developments.
- Management and the development of the Finance Team
- Periodic review of the departmental structure to proactively deal with changes in business needs and requirements.
- Employ and reorganise where necessary.
- Set goals for individuals in the team on which their performance will be measured.
- Development of staff and explore opportunities in which staff get exposure to different aspects within the accounting cycle.
- Ensure that there are contingency plans for all roles within the department.
- Prepare annual KPI's for the team.
- Organise and manage staff training within the relevant departments.
Key Skills: - Demonstrable experience in managing and developing a team.
- Proven track record in the aforementioned performance areas.
Qualifications: - Registered Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.
- A minimum of 8 - 10 years of post-qualification experience, ideally within the retail/property industry.
