Qualifications
- Health professional degree (with specialisation in Paediatrics and Child Health at Masters level) or PhD
- Registration with relevant health professional council
- Prior teaching experience and supervision of postgraduate students
- Experience conducting research
Key Performance Areas:
Teaching and training
Teaches principles of medicine and paediatrics to students, registrars, specialists and other health professionals.
- Prepares and delivers lectures to students.
- Coordinates undergraduate and/or postgraduate courses, including prepares course outlines, establishes course goals and learning objectives, and method of instruction.
- Facilitates and stimulates classroom discussions.
- Compiles bibliographies of specialised materials for assignments, projects and courses.
- Observes and evaluates students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement.
- Develops teaching aids, such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, or study materials.
- Advises students on academic curricula.
- Reviews postgraduate enrolment applications and corresponds with applicants.
- Arranges course modules, including lectures and seminars by subject matter experts in designated fields.
- Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions and integrates relevant information into training programme.
Instructional material and continuing education programmes
Develops and improves student training curricula and programmes, and continuing education programmes for the professional paediatric and public health community.
- Develops teaching aids for students such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials and study materials.
- Develops instructional materials and continuing education programmes for the professional paediatric and public health community.
- Conducts in-service and community-based educational programmes.
- Prepares reviews, monographs, technical reports and systematic analysis of the published literature for publication.
Research
- Plans and directs studies to investigate disease, preventive methods, and treatments for disease and poor health.
- Plans methodological design of research study and arranges for data collection.
- Analyses data, applying statistical techniques and scientific knowledge, prepares reports, and presents findings.
- Publishes findings in professional journals and other relevant dissemination formats.
- Directs and supervises research of undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Supervises activities of research personnel. Solves operational problems and provides technical assistance with study design and conduct.
Service, consultancy and income-generation
- Serves on departmental, faculty and university committees.
- Advises on the development or expansion of programmes or services dealing with health research, rehabilitation, and community health promotion.
- Develops and/or maintains computerized records management systems to store or process health data.
- Consults with and advises health departments, industry personnel, doctors, educators, researchers, community groups and others to improve child and public health.
- Provides professional consulting services to government and industry.
- Actively participates in the development of productive links with external organisations to secure consultancy and other income-generating opportunities.
