This career opportunity is available at Santam Direct Claims department for the Desktop Non-Motor Claims Assessor and will be based in Tygervalley, Cape Town.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for determining the quantum and merit of segmented non-motor claims by performing investigations, verifying the description of the event with the loss, negotiation (with client, and service providers) and settlement of claims within a delegated threshold and according to contract conditions.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Determining merits, quantum, item identification, buying.
- Assess claims by reviewing digital images or documentation received.
- Review equivalent replacement value by confirming details on the quotation, contacting suppliers, and obtaining input from the experts or moderators.
- Identifying, investigating, and resolving any issues relating to claims handled in line with Santam policies and procedures such as Service Level Agreements, Standard Operating Procedures.
- Recommend and negotiate settlement: replacement, repair, cash or claims card.
- Authorizing repairs.
- Write merits report, recommend settlement details of claim, findings, circumstances, merits, quantum and risk recommendations.
- Communicating and updating the client from beginning to end.
- Handling the claim effectively and advising the policyholder of the prescribed or most appropriate mechanism for resolving claims settlement disputes.
- Managing workload and instructions from system through appraisal notes and documents.
- Required to check completeness and correctness of documents and compare collected information to the policy requirements and claim details presented.
- Contacting client telephonically for any identified outstanding information.
- Appointing specialist resources if required.
- Interacting with SAPS, weather bureau or any other stakeholders required to confirm merits of the claim.
- Updating the central claims file.
- Handling complaints, queries and all interaction with clients, service providers, internal stakeholders, relationship managers, claims committee and underwriters.
- Responsible for all Non-Motor policy sections pertaining to Personal lines, Agriculture and Commercial lines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Matric.
- 3 years short-term claims experience.
- 3-4 years assessing experience.
- NQF 4 Insurance Qualifications essential.
KNOWLEDGE
- Familiar with all Non-Motor policy sections pertaining to Personal lines.
- Familiar with all Non-Motor policy sections pertaining to Commercial lines.
- Familiar with all Non-Motor policy sections of an Agricultural nature.
- Ability to verify appraisal detail.
- Investigate and assess claims.
- Ability to assess merits.
- SAPS.
- Ability to discuss and validate a list of items e.g., insurable interest.
- Familiar with other insurances.
- Ability to identify items such as white appliances, jewelry, electronic equipment, audio and radio equipment etc.
- Capability to document evidence.
- Excess application.
- Ability to correctly apply indemnification.
- Familiar with alarms and safety systems as well as advanced electronic equipment.
- Computer literacy (MS office).
- Familiar with Santam systems.
- Telephonic skills.
- Ability to handle conflict and negotiate.
- Basic business ethics.
- Report writing.
