A position as Compliance Specialist exists in the Group Compliance department, based at our Head Office in Cape Town.
Assist the Santam Head of the Compliance Control Function to optimise and oversee regulatory compliance practices across Santam businesses. The role includes the identification of significant compliance risks and monitoring and coordinating with relevant businesses to ensure that these risks are appropriately addressed. This role will report to the Head of the Compliance Control Function.
The Compliance department oversees the Santam Group Compliance Program, functioning as an independent and objective body that reviews and evaluates compliance issues/concerns within the organisation. The Compliance department ensures that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately managed, evaluated, investigated and resolved.
What will make you successful in this role?
- Compliance Risk Management: Conduct Compliance risk assessments across the businesses and provide pro-active support to the businesses in addressing compliance risks (which includes compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations and standards applicable to the businesses).
- Monitoring Compliance and Reporting: Conduct Compliance Audits/Reviews to monitor adherence to compliance obligations and prepare the relevant compliance reports to the various levels of management in the businesses.
- Provide appropriate support and input into compliance projects where required.
- Render appropriate Compliance advice/guidance, training to the businesses as required.
- Handle requests from third parties (internal and external).
- Support in maintaining a good working relationship with the Information Regulator where required, responding to requests and queries from their office and providing required reporting as directed by the Information Officer.
Qualification and Experience
- Degree in Law / LLB.
- Postgraduate Diploma/Compliance Certificate (preferable).
- Registered as a Compliance Officer under the FAIS Act for Category I FSPs with the FSCA.
- Continuous adherence to the fit & proper requirements as determined by the Prudential Authority and the Financial Sector Conduct Authority.
- Knowledge of legislation, regulations, and legal principles applicable to the financial services industry, particularly in the insurance sector.
- At least 5 years of experience in the financial services industry, particularly in the insurance sector.
