A position exists in the Warehouse department at Sherwin-Williams South Africa based at our Manufacturing site in Durban, KZN. Reporting to the Warehouse Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for all Dispatch related functions including supervision of the Dispatch team members.
Responsibilities
Prepares, analyzes, and compiles complex freight payments and related reporting for units; reviews for efficiency and cost savings and makes appropriate recommendations.
Supervises and ensures Dispatch team employees are adequately informed, instructed, trained and supervised to safely carry out work for which they are engaged.
Maintains accurate records and assists in inventory control by performing cycle counts and stocktakes.
Examines invoices and shipping documents to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Ensures compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Analyzes trends, reviews forecasts, and develops daily, weekly and monthly reports and recommendations to control transportation costs.
Supervises and/or performs:
- Accurate, prompt picking of product from inventory locations, make ready for shipping;
- Control the finished goods stock on hand in accuracy of quantity, location, status, and FIFO;
- Arrange transport and schedule dispatches to ensure timely deliveries;
- Load vehicles, account for all product, ensure good condition prior to dispatch;
- Control and account for the distribution of pallets, flow bins, totes etc;
- Ensure correct shipping documents, COA’s (including special customer requirements), account for POD’s;
- Ensure all transporters possess valid tremcards, declarations, daily vehicle inspections etc;
- Validate and authorize all transporters invoices (in terms of accounting procedures);
- Account for all in-transit incidents, ensure claimable incidents properly and quickly resolved;
- Ensure appropriate coverage for after-hours/week-end deliveries;
- Coordinate transport etc for returns from customer (Authority To Collect), advise receiving;
- Coordinate transport etc. for removal of redundant inventory from Sherwin Williams or customer locations.
Ensures:
- Compliance with all relevant HSE and Quality Standards procedures and standards.
- Compliance with handling of dangerous goods on site and regarding deliveries;
- Good inventory usage practice e.g. FIFO;
- High standard of safe-keeping/protection from damage, theft, loss etc of all inventory under own control;
- Correct, timely recording of all shipping, distribution, inventory transactions under own control;
- High standard of housekeeping (5S’s) in all locations, vehicles under own control;
- Proper use and safe-keeping of all inventory measurement and recording electronic devices;
- Safe and careful operating and safe-keeping of all forklift and reach trucks under direct control;
- To manage transport to optimise cost and prevent idle time, double handling etc.
Periodic responsibilities:
- Keep all related work instructions current and valid and ensure that staff is trained accordingly.
- Assist/lead in periodic inventory counts as directed by inventory count leader/SC Manager.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 5 years proven experience in similar role in similar industry; proven supervisory skills.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Inventory / Warehousing qualification required.
- Certified in relevant hazardous material handling procedures, transportation legislation etc.
