Accountant
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant to join our team at our Cape Town office located at Manhattan Place on Bree Street. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing all financial transactions, from fixed payments and variable expenses to bank deposits and budgets. The accountant will also be responsible for auditing financial documents and procedures, reconciling bank statements, and calculating tax payments and returns. This role requires a high level of integrity, excellent analytical skills, and a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to ensure our company's financial operations are accurate and compliant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Management : Manage all accounting transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Bank Reconciliation : Reconcile bank statements by comparing statements with the general ledger to ensure accuracy.
- Financial Statements : Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
- Budget Management : Assist in the preparation and management of budgets and forecasts, providing financial insights to guide business decisions.
- Tax Compliance : Prepare and submit VAT returns, corporate tax returns, and other statutory filings, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations.
- Audit Preparation : Assist in the preparation for internal and external audits, including gathering required documentation and supporting information.
- Expense Management : Review and process expense reports, ensuring adherence to company policies and accurate allocation to accounts.
- Process Improvement : Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
- Financial Analysis : Conduct variance analysis and provide insights on financial performance, highlighting trends and potential areas of concern.
- Compliance and Regulations : Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulations, and industry practices to ensure ongoing compliance.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Proven work experience as an Accountant or in a similar role, preferably in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (GAAP, IFRS).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex financial information clearly.
- High level of integrity and professionalism, with a strong ethical standard.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certification such as CPA (Certified Public Accountant), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), or CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants).
- Experience with financial analysis and reporting in a similar industry.
- Familiarity with South African tax regulations and compliance.
