As an Artisan Rigger Ropesman, you will be required to maintain equipment according to sound engineering practices and equipment specifications, as well as conducting any rigging tasks as might be required within any section of the underground mine, including surface. This role has a legal appointment in terms of the MHSA Act of 1996: Maintain, install, and commission machinery and equipment to an agreed standard in the area of responsibility.
Your role will include but is not limited to:
- Adhere to the Safety, Health and Environmental Policies and Procedures and comply with legal and mine safety standards, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (Chapter 16).
- Plan activities in accordance with production schedules and allocate resources as required.
- Maintain lifting equipment, winder ropes, and attachments.
- Perform rigging and heavy lifting work in surface, underground, and vertical shafts.
- Attend to breakdowns and emergencies as required.
- Inspect, diagnose, and perform trade-related maintenance and exercise judgment regarding the replacement of components.
- Work in a sequence that prioritizes work requirements and conduct and participate in risk assessments.
Minimum Requirements:
- Section 13 or 26D Red Seal Trade Certificate.
- Must have completed an apprenticeship or learnership.
- 3-5 years experience as a Rigger artisan.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- A mobile telephone to be contactable when required.
- Own transport.
- Ability to work standby.
Additional Requirements:
- Certification - Working at Heights.
- Overhead Crane certification.
- Must have at least 3 years mining experience.
- Medical fitness certificate.
- Reside within 30 km radius from Ergo operations.
