Provides primary and episodic care to patients – independently and in collaboration with other medical professionals – following standards and protocols set by the Chief Medical Officer and/or Supervising Physician. Functions as a member of the clinical team and maintains patient flow and maximizes the delivery of quality care to patients. Emphasizes health promotion and/or disease prevention through patient education and coordination of care. Follows regulations and guidelines for writing prescriptions.
General Accountabilities:
- Assure patient flow runs smoothly and efficiently.
- Follow protocols which provide medical authority when such are indicated in providing care.
- Perform complete physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent and non-urgent presentation.
- Select, order, and perform tests and procedures to augment physical findings.
- Define/document differential diagnoses and list differential diagnoses with most likely diagnoses included.
- Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as deemed necessary and appropriate for plan of care, in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
- Interpret data and diagnostic results for appropriate course of action including but not limited to laboratory, radiology, EKG, etc. in collaboration with supervising physician as indicated.
- Perform duties in accordance with the customary rules of ethics and conduct of the applicable State Board of Medicine and other such regulating bodies.
- Prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
- Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential patient issues and situations.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Learn computer software programs; enter and maintain accurate data and statistical information in order to consistently prepare clear and concise reports.
Job Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an ARC-PA accredited program for Physician Assistants with at least 1 year of clinical experience.
- State licensure as a Physician Assistant.
- National board certification by one of the Physician Assistant certifying bodies (i.e. NCCPA).
- DEA license with no restrictions.
- Clinical experience in an emergency, urgent care or ambulatory clinic setting.
- BLS certified.
Environmental and Physical Requirements:
- Candidate must be able to read, write and speak English fluently, have cognitive skills for math, reading, filing and sterile technique skills.
- Communication skills to deal well with employees, patients, families and Physician/Medical Providers.
- Vision for near, mid-range, far and accommodation. Hearing for low, medium, and high pitch.
- Job requires physical ability for long-term standing, occasional sitting, crouching, kneeling, frequent walking, reaching with reaching above head and below waist.
- Job risks include exposure to blood and body fluids (high), contact with chemicals, lifting of 30 - 40 pounds, and exposure to infectious disease.
