Overview of Duties:
The AHRI Laboratory Technologist will be undertaking specimen processing and conducting experiments in the Immunology laboratory, participating in general laboratory duties, tissue culture as deemed relevant by the Principal Investigator. This candidate will be based in our Durban site.
Brief overview of duties:
- Perform day-to-day laboratory functions including but not limited to assembly of sample collection kits, processing samples, performing various clinical or research tests/assays for viral, bacterial and non-communicable diseases, storage or distribution of samples, as required by the various AHRI studies or clinical trials.
- Competent and effective use of the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for logging in samples, generating labels, workflows, test sheets, capturing and generating results and reports.
- Monitoring of results and turnaround times as per quality indicator targets.
- General housekeeping and equipment maintenance including record keeping as per laboratory SOPs and ISO 15189 requirements.
- Compliance with Health and Safety and Company policies and procedures as well as ISO15189/GCLP requirements including writing and review of SOPs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- B-Tech in Biomedical Technology or Medical Technology with completion of 2-years internship with an accredited laboratory or BMedSci in Medical Technology with 1 year internship completed with an accredited laboratory.
- Current registration with HPCSA as a Medical Technologist in Clinical Pathology or Virology.
Minimum Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a diagnostic or research laboratory setting.
- Experience working in a high throughput ISO15189 accredited and/or Clinical Trial laboratory will be highly advantageous.
- Experience working with a Laboratory Information Management System will be advantageous.
- Experience in processing and storage of various biological samples.
- Experience in performing various laboratory tests such as, but not limited to serology, microscopy, nucleic acid extraction, amplification and quantification by various PCR methods.
- Experience and knowledge operating in accordance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) or similar environment will be an advantage.
- Ability to write, review and follow SOPs and other laboratory procedures.
