Job Title: Senior Manager: Fixed Asset Management
Organisational Unit: University of Mpumalanga -> Finance -> Revenue & Expenditure -> Asset Management
Job Primary Purpose: The purpose of this post is to ensure that the University’s assets are managed effectively and appropriately.
Key Performance Areas:
- Developing standard operating procedures for the fixed assets division in line with requirements of IFRS and VAT Legislation.
- Review of Fixed Asset Register (FAR) to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Planning periodic activities such as the physical verification of assets.
- Managing the capital expenditure budget for Infrastructure Projects and any other capex.
- Ensuring the New Infrastructure Projects (NIP) budget is captured accurately and in line with the General Ledger.
- Ensuring timeous capitalization and disposal of assets.
- Analysis of profit/loss on sale or decommissioning of assets.
- Review of asset journals and reconciliations.
- Attending to external and internal audit queries.
- Attending to any queries with NIP and Operations.
- Annual evaluation of useful lives and residual values of assets.
- Managing staff within the Asset Division.
- Compiling the relevant reports on assets.
- Monthly reconciliation of Fixed Asset Register and General Ledger.
Minimum Requirements:
- M+4, Postgraduate Qualification in Commerce or equivalent.
- 7 years’ experience in Asset Management.
- Working knowledge of IAS 16 and IAS 20.
- Experience in Asset Management in Higher Education would be an added advantage.
- IFRS knowledge.
- Effective communication in written and verbal form.
- Time management.
