Job Overview
To lead the engineering schedules execution team and support the production process with adequate levels of availability, operability (sustained production rates) and reliability relating to the electrical and mechanical aspects of production and all ancillary equipment, including the electrical distribution systems, by ensuring that all engineering-related schedules, breakdowns, problems, and opportunities related to all equipment in the converting plant are attended to in the shortest possible time and in the most effective and safest manner.
Duties & Responsibilities
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the plant’s equipment availability by leading the flawless execution of engineering and maintenance schedules.
- Ensure that all electrical and mechanical equipment and installations comply with the OHS act and related regulations.
- Manage all electrical and mechanical department resources, i.e. artisans, budgets, and tools, in the most efficient manner.
- Complete all assigned planned maintenance for the month as per the scheduled maintenance plan.
- Ensure electrical and mechanical availability of all equipment is as per agreed targets.
- Inspect all equipment at the scheduled intervals as determined by the OEM’s and the asset care plan.
- Supervise all electrical and mechanical department employees and contractors and ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements and OMS schedules.
- Minimize breakdowns and recurring breakdowns and attend to all breakdowns as a matter of urgency.
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Attend to service requests in accordance with the Prioritization Protocol.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Planner and Engineering Manager to review and improve engineering work schedules, incorporating suggestions from artisans and operators.
- Ensure RCA’s (Root Cause Analysis) are conducted in line with RCA guidelines.
- Ensure all work orders for completed work are handed in according to OMS requirements.
- Report all incidents immediately.
- Keep workshop and work area clean and ensure equipment is maintained in good condition.
- Ensure compliance with company and OHS act regulations.
- Draw up budgets for electrical and mechanical requirements in time and manage expenses against budget properly.
Desired Experience & Qualification
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- N6 in an Electrical or Mechanical field, with relevant trade test (preference for Millwright).
WORKING EXPERIENCE
- Plant electrical and mechanical experience in an FMCG environment (preferably paper converting) with emphasis on AC & DC electrical motors and their control, safety systems, control systems, sensors, converting equipment, pneumatics, control panels, MCC’s, LT distribution, computer-based process control systems, mechanical and electrical installations, and above-average computer literacy (Microsoft Office).
PERSONAL QUALITIES
- Above-average knowledge of the production equipment, operation, and maintenance thereof.
