National Technical Civil Manager
The leading Waste Management consortium in South Africa is seeking a National Technical Civil Manager to join their Management team in Johannesburg.
The incumbent will be responsible for technical support and project management of all activities relating to civil engineering on landfill sites. You will need to ensure full understanding, track and analyse current data and performance for all landfill site activities related to airspace, leachate and storm water management, gas emissions and other infrastructure. The successful candidate will need to ensure long-term sustainability of landfill sites through airspace security, rehabilitation, surface and infrastructure optimization. Further, identify, assess, improve and implement feasible approved projects within time and budget. To lead and execute all civil projects for the company and client owned operational, closed and future landfill sites, situated in South Africa and Africa, as well as any future locations.
Minimum Requirements
In order to be considered for this role you must meet the following requirements:
- BSc / BEng / BTech (Civil Engineering)
- Professional registration will be advantageous
- 5 years’ experience in similar or related field
- Project management methodology required to be able to track different projects at the same time with different suppliers, sites and areas.
- Solid experience in landfill design and optimization.
- Civil Engineering and waste management
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and practices.
Responsibilities
The duties of this position entail (not limited to):
- Oversee multiple landfill sites’ infrastructures to ensure that effective planning, maintenance and review of roads, canals, security measures, pumps and SHEQ requirements are in place.
- Analyse and understand business and business improvement plans.
- Collaborate with customers (internal and external) in order to build trust, optimize business efficiency, and support the sustainability of the business.
- Communicate with site managers, clients, supervisors, peers, consultants.
- Liaise with experts in the group internationally.
- Keep abreast of latest technologies and best operating practices.
- Lead projects from inception to conclusion.
- Prepare design briefs for consultants in accordance with applicable codes of practice and standards.
- Ensure effective design, procurement, quality, construction and commissioning on a project.
- Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information.
- Continuously track and report on project schedules, cash-flows and plans.
- Attend meetings.
- Control all project legal documents (e.g. contracts and terms of agreements).
