Chief Risk Officer
As the Chief Risk Officer, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing the entire spectrum of risks, encompassing credit, operational, market, interest rate, liquidity, and IT security. Additionally, you will be responsible for compliance and forensics functions within the organization. This role entails fostering a culture of risk-awareness, contributing to strategic decision-making processes, and collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies.
Duties & Responsibilities
Relationship Management:
- Develop and nurture relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
Risk & Compliance Oversight:
- Conduct thorough analysis and monitoring of risks, providing second-line assessments and comprehensive reports to Risk Committees and Board structures.
- Ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations, and risk management policies.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Keep the board apprised of pertinent risks and associated mitigation strategies.
- Manage relationships with third parties, regulatory bodies, investors, and auditors.
- Facilitate the annual review of risk profiles for related business segments.
Strategy Development and Alignment:
- Participate in crafting risk strategy and planning initiatives for the Group.
- Develop risk strategies specifically tailored to SA Lending and transactional businesses.
- Assist in defining Risk Appetite aligned with the Group Risk Strategy.
- Serve as the Risk Executive for a designated Segment.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of processes within the Group Risk Governance Framework.
- Concentrate on managing significant risks within acceptable thresholds, streamlining and integrating risk management processes.
Promotion of Risk Culture:
- Provide leadership that encourages risk ownership and accountability within Line 1 functions.
- Advocate for the integration of risk-based decision-making within the business operations.
- Ensure continuous engagement between the Risk Team and other business units.
- Collaborate with other Risk Centers of Excellence and assurance providers.
- Effectively manage team priorities, fostering motivation for optimal performance.
- Strategically plan assignments and cultivate talent to enhance team capabilities.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the development of the fraud prevention strategy.
- Develop, manage, and refine qualitative and quantitative risk reporting mechanisms.
- Implement and refine the risk framework across all business functions.
- Foster a culture of informed risk-taking by embedding the agreed risk framework into decision-making processes.
- Implement an Enterprise Risk Management framework aligned with organizational goals.
- Provide constructive challenge within Risk Committee structures.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Extensive experience in the financial services sector, particularly within Lending and Banking environments.
- Proven track record in credit risk management, demonstrating oversight, delivery, and collaboration.
- Strong background in first-line business and credit operations.
- Bachelor's degree and post-graduate professional qualification in audit, accounting, risk management, compliance, or related field.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role focused on credit risk.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in integrating and analyzing credit risk data.
