Position of reporting manager: Chief Operating Officer
Smoke Customer Intelligence is looking to hire a passionate, energetic, experienced and motivated Human Resources Business Partner to partner with the different departments on their HR needs; to help source and secure new team members for various departments within our organisation; lead non-product training and development initiatives; effectively partner with the business to mature the Human Resources function; ensure efficient HR administration takes place in line with all of South Africa’s labour legislation and best practice; moderate Employee issues; engage with Employees on a daily basis to build motivation and cultural alignment; coach Leaders on great management practices; and advocate to leadership on behalf of Employees.
The ideal candidate is a high-energy, strong communicator with a knack for engaging with other experienced professionals/Employees/Leaders, and the candidate must be comfortable and well-versed with all aspects of HR.

Market-related TCTC per month – Based on skill and qualification of candidate

Job responsibilities
- Effectively manage the human capital of Smoke Customer Intelligence
- Partner with the different business units on their HR needs
- Understand business goals and strategy, and recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in business objectives, productivity and the development of HR within the Company
- Hands-on approach to HR
- Effective management of HR administration/tasks
- Monitor the “pulse” of the Employees to ensure a high level of Employee engagement, as well as engage proactively with Employees on a daily basis
- Partner with the leadership team to understand and execute the organisation's human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning
- Provides support and guidance to the leadership team, team leaders, and Employees when complex, specialised, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations, etc.
- Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants; collaborates with the Heads of the Departments/Hiring Managers/Executive team to understand skills and competencies required for openings
- Analyse trends in compensation and benefits; research and propose competitive base and incentive pay programs to ensure the organisation attracts and retains top talent
- Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for Employees
- Undertakes HR projects/initiatives based on the Company’s requirements and strategy
- Oversees Employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
- Maintains compliance with employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain labour legislation compliance and minimise risk in this regard in partnership with the General Manager: Finance
- Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward organisational objectives
- Evaluate and maintain Smoke CI’s mission, vision, purpose, mantras, leadership behaviours, and Company culture
- Manage Smoke CI’s social committee (SoCo) in line with Company culture requirements
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
Experience & knowledge required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
- Strong solutions focus and be comfortable working in an environment which demands strong deliverables along with the ability to identify problems and drive appropriate solutions
- Ability to prioritise tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
- Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
- Must be self-motivated and enthusiastic regarding the challenges and opportunities of a dynamic organisation
- Strong judgement abilities to determine the proper fit of new team members within Smoke CI
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
- Passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvement
- Ability to be comfortable with high volume workload and not be afraid to “roll up your sleeves”
Minimum qualification
The following qualifications will be considered (in order of preference):
- Minimum of 5 years of Human Resources management experience
- Experience working for a SaaS company would be a plus
- Robust knowledge and experience of HR functions and best practices
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources/Industrial Psychology or related field
