Modelling and Simulation Engineer, Electro-Optics
Saab Grintek Defence is looking for a person who is knowledgeable in modelling and simulation, specifically in electro-optic sensors, components and subsystems. The candidate should have an interest and aptitude to evaluate and improve system performance through optimisation of optics and algorithms. He or she should be able to analyse and summarise results of, for example, field and laboratory measurements so that it can be presented to various stakeholders.
Your role
Some specific tasks include:
Modelling and Simulation
- Design and use of system models
- MATLAB, Simulink, Python, Excel (advanced)
- Hardware-in-the-loop simulations
- Component (e.g. detector) level simulation up to system level simulation
- Evaluation and optimisation for the purpose of improving overall system performance.
- Evaluating existing and proposed optical designs
- Modelling as part of larger system model
Filter design and evaluation
- Understanding of thin film filters
- Understanding of absorption filters
- Measurement of filters
Algorithm Design and Signal Processing
- Assist in algorithm development and optimisation as required
Data Analysis
- Data analysis of measurements
- Summary and presentation of results
- Preparing algorithms for deployment onto embedded systems
Your profile
Required skills:
- Optic, electro-optic and radiometry knowledge will be an advantage.
- MATLAB, Python and similar tools – advanced knowledge and experience required.
- Optics simulation knowledge will be an advantage.
- Optical filter knowledge will be an advantage.
- Good skills in summarising and presenting results
- Basic system engineering knowledge
Desired skills:
- Minimum of 5 years experience in a scientific or engineering R&D and/or product development environment
- Knowledge of an electronics production, repair and maintenance environment will be an advantage
- Knowledge of electro-optic systems will be an advantage

- B.Eng. Electronics or an equivalent qualification
