About the role
We are looking for an insightful Senior Intelligence Analyst to join our team as an embedded analyst within a client's newly established global intelligence function. In this role, you will be instrumental in helping to define the scope of the intelligence function, as well as develop a suite of intelligence products used to inform the client’s business decision-makers. In addition, you will engage directly with internal and external stakeholders, including on-the-ground security teams, to interpret their requirements, provide support and consulting, and leverage Sibylline’s own suite of intelligence analytical reporting.
The ideal candidate will be an analyst with sound knowledge of geopolitical and security issues in the Sahel and Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as the ability to apply a superb analytical skillset to other regions across the globe. They must be able to design and refine tailored intelligence reports with strategic insight on various geopolitical topics and travel security, with a sharp enthusiasm for corporate security and problem-solving. Applicants require the ability to collect intelligence information and track threat and geopolitical developments directly or indirectly affecting the client’s assets, people, and interests globally.
This role is full time, with core working hours 9am-5pm Monday-Friday. The role can be remote, with an option for hybrid working if the candidate is based in Johannesburg. There may be occasional, and fully reimbursed, travel to the client’s office near Johannesburg if the candidate does not live in Johannesburg and its surrounding areas.
Responsibilities
- Monitor open-source intelligence to assess geopolitical events around the world that could impact the client’s global workforce and business operations.
- Design, deliver and refine range of intelligence products delivering proactive and in-depth analysis, and actionable insight to internal stakeholders, including periodic reports and bespoke products.
- Brief executives as needed on key developments, trends and content.
- Refine intelligence requirements by networking and supporting the growth of the intelligence function within the client company.
- Display innovation, implementing the latest techniques, tools and best practices to support a global intelligence function.
- Be an effective member of a small team, focused on delivery of lean, high-impact services.
- Engage with local security, operations and other client teams to collect on-the-ground-truth, and analyse and disseminate pertinent information to relevant stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field International Relations, Security Studies, Journalism, Business Management, or related field;
- Approximately 4-6 years of relevant professional experience in corporate strategic intelligence;
- Deep interest and expertise in geopolitical issues, including knowledge of global politics, physical security, criminal, governance and information security issues;
- Strong commercial awareness, with the ability to interpret geopolitical developments and determine their impact to business staff, assets, operations and reputation;
- Advanced open-source research and social media monitoring skills;
- Ability to rapidly digest, evaluate and “sift” large quantities of information;
- Analytical flair, with the ability to provide rigorous, creative insight into complex situations;
- Strong writing skills, with native-level spoken and written English;
- Ability to produce high-quality intelligence products for short deadlines, as well as maintain analysis for and report on long-term strategic assessments; and
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates across different time zones and work in a multicultural environment
- Must have the right to work in South Africa
Nice to have
- Advanced degree (Master’s or above) in a related field;
- Foreign language skills, particularly Spanish, French and / or Portuguese;
- Professional network through OSAC, ISMA, AIRIP or similar industry bodies; and
- Cross-functional experience within a global security team (e.g. threat monitoring, travel security, business continuity and crisis management).
