Senior Lab Technician

Our client in the manufacturing industry requires a Snr Laboratory Technologist that will be responsible for monitoring chemical processes and testing products as part of quality assurance. This role involves performing relevant lab activities such as setting up lap equipment and preparing chemical solutions. The Technologist will conduct tests, interpret and analyse data, compile results, prepare reports and present conclusions.
Duties
Laboratory
General housekeeping of the laboratory as per good laboratory practice.
Daily validation of laboratory equipment and updating the calibration records.
Correctly use equipment ensuring the equipment integrity is maintained. Ensure lab equipment is periodically inspected, cleaned and maintained
Final testing of products produced as per SOP’s and reporting variances or anomalies.
Analysis of incoming raw materials based on requirements and ad hoc.
Maintain calibration schedule and scheduling of external calibration with service providers.
Data recording: maintain final product and raw material database by recording results timeously
Printing of passed products batch stickers.
Requesting labels for Engen products for blends manufactured.
QC testing of toll manufacturing raw material samples and finished Blends, updating on both raw material and finished products cardex.
Creating COAs for all products manufactured and updating on drop box system. Email COA’s as required by customers, tollers or sales.
Assist with stock taking.
Assist to train and monitor progress of interns and junior staff.
Research and Development
Assist with the research and development of products to meets customer requirements. Collect raw materials and conduct blends as required.
Conducting research on customer complaints and reporting findings.
Purchasing of laboratory reagents required for testing and standardizing them.
Send of samples for finished products that require external testing to designated laboratories and capturing results provided.
ISO 9001
Adhering to ISO 9001:2015 standard as applicable to the laboratory procedures
Assist to draw up SOP’s, review and finalise.
Conduct Internal audits as per audit schedule and write internal audit reports.
Assist with preparation for ISO 9001 external audits.
Provide staff with training on standard operating procedures applicable to the laboratory department.
HSE
Comply with the HSE requirements for PPE
Maintain HSE standards for laboratory
Ensure the laboratory is kept clean and tidy to prevent accidents, spills and near misses
Requirements
Diploma in Analytical Chemistry or BSC Chemistry.
Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing chemical industry.
Grade 12 or equivalent is essential.
Knowledge of Chemistry.
Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and instruments, including calibration and maintenance.
Valid Driver’s License and reliable transport (Minimum Code 8)
Familiar with regulatory standards such as ISO will be advantageous.
Intermediate knowledge required MS Office - Excel and Word essential
