Background
Our client is a privately owned company that designs and manufactures premium maintenance equipment predominately focusing on lubrication and pneumatic equipment used in the agricultural, industrial, mining and transport industries across the globe. They are seeking the services of a qualified and experienced Fitter Turner Machinist.
The company is located in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, approximately 35 kilometres from Pietermaritzburg and as such the successful candidate must have his/her own transport and driver’s license as there is no public transport that services the area and this position may require working after hours.
Required Qualifications and Experience
• A qualification as a Fitter Turner Machinist
• A person who has passed his/her trade test as a Fitter Turner Machinist
• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in the relevant field
• Experience within a production environment including but not limited to
o Operation and maintenance of production machinery, including eccentric presses, resistance welders, coating lines, robotic welders, hardening lines etc
o Manufacture and maintenance of production jigs and fixtures.
o Manufacture and maintenance of Press tooling.
o Competence with CNC vertical machining centers, CNC Lathes, Wire EDM and Robotic Welding systems.
• Own transport and in possession of a driver’s license.
While this is a five-day work week position, the incumbent must be on call and prepared to work overtime.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Working with and reporting to the Technical Manager to develop, design, and build new production machinery in line with product specifications
• Routine servicing and maintenance of production machines
• Attending to breakdowns, identifying faults, problem-solving and repairing of production machines and tools to ensure minimum downtime to enhance productivity.
• Manufacture and maintenance of Blanking, forming and progression tools
• Planning repair work, reporting on breakdown root causes, equipment faults and raising concerns to management timeously on a daily basis.
• Identifying and escalating any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage to machinery, tools and other equipment.
• Ensuring adherence to ISO 9001 requirements
• Carrying out and documenting engineering level changes and modifications.
• Operating forklift truck and lifting equipment as and when required.
