Main Duties Summary:
A desktop publishing (DTP) artist, or DTP art director, is responsible for transforming the templates created by creative art directors, populating layouts with prices and product details according to briefs, and finalising them into print and digital files.
- Follow a design brief from the client or designer.
- Use DTP software (especially Adobe InDesign) to produce layouts for each page.
- Use internal systems, including a workbook for actioning briefs, communication, and timesheets.
- Complete all DTP work using RMS, ensuring no manual changes unless communicated and flagged.
- Meet deadlines, often with tight turnarounds.
- Adhere to DTP processes for communication, circulation, final artwork (FA) checks, and disking.
- Complete each job with a full FA checklist.
- Select and verify layout formatting, type style, column width, and spacing.
- Check and select appropriate colours.
- Maintain excellent attention to detail throughout.
Minimum Experience Required:
- Over two years’ experience in DTP art direction.
- Experience in a live retail environment is advantageous.
- Understanding of high-pressure environments.
