Role: Systems Engineer
Location: Northampton (International Travel Required)
Salary: 45,000 - 60,000

Job Summary:
This role involves developing and supporting control systems for industrial applications, overseeing software for PLCs, HMI/SCADA, and data management, and coordinating projects to ensure compliance with customer requirements. The Systems & Controls Engineer will be an essential resource in both the design and field support of engineering projects, requiring travel and hands-on involvement in installations and system operations.
Key Responsibilities
Software Development & Troubleshooting
- Develop, adjust, and troubleshoot PLC programs, with a strong understanding of communication protocols.
- Design and modify HMI/SCADA systems to meet operational requirements.
- Write and execute database queries for data extraction and analysis.
- Develop and troubleshoot data management software for seamless data flow and control.
Control Systems Engineering
- Implement and maintain control applications for industrial systems, including motors, conveyors, and instrumentation.
- Ensure systems adhere to functional specifications, safety protocols, and client expectations.
- Use engineering software and tools to support tasks related to design, installation, and system operation.
Project Coordination & Support
- Collaborate with project teams to track schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
- Actively participate in team meetings, communicate updates, and manage changes.
- Assist in project estimation and create manning schedules with the project management team.
- Act as the primary engineering resource during start-up and commissioning phases.
Field Support & Compliance
- Oversee the installation and maintenance of control and electrical systems on-site.
- Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with safety and company standards.
- Domestic and international travel (20-30% of the year) to job sites is required, which may include working in challenging environmental conditions.
Additional Duties
- Serve as the primary electrical support for field installations.
- Encourage and maintain a positive team environment to support organizational goals.
- Adapt to additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- BTEC Level 3 in General Engineering or related field.
- Experience in electrical engineering or similar field.
- Strong background in PLC programming (Rockwell/Siemens preferred).
Technical Skills
- SCADA programming and Ignition software knowledge are beneficial.
- Basic understanding of AutoCAD and web-based programming languages preferred.
- Networking and database management certifications are a plus.
