Head Chef - Education, near Leatherhead, Surrey up to 55,500
Our client is recruiting for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to join the catering team at this independent school near Leatherhead, Surrey.
This co-ed school caters for approx. 920 daily including some boarders. The Catering department provides a breakfast, lunch and supper service as well as a reduced service over the weekends and some hospitality (parents evenings, sports days etc).
In this role, you will
Lead and manage the team of chefs and kitchen porters including holding daily shift meetings, training and rotas
Create exciting nutritional menus based on food trends and using fresh seasonal ingredients
Ensure all food produced is of high quality and standard
Manage food costings, wastage, budget control
Work alongside the Head of Catering to produce budget as well as innovative food offers
Take responsibility for all kitchen compliance and due diligence
Working hours are Monday to Saturday, 40 hours per week, 50 weeks per year.
Holiday entitlement is 25 days in addition to Bank Holidays and three days at Christmas when the School is closed.
What we are looking for in the ideal candidate:
A Head Chef or Exec Chef ideally with a proven work background within education or B&I
Experience of leading and managing a large catering team in a high-volume operation
City and Guilds 706 Level 1 and 2, or NVQ 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent
Strong organisational and planning skills
Proven ability to work under pressure
Financial acumen with ability to manage a budget
Attention to detail and presentation
Extensive proven track record in providing a range of creative, high quality food and customer service
Ability to lead, motivate and guide others
A flexible approach to work - responding to changing or unforeseen circumstances and being willing to work outside regular hours as the need arises
