Maintenance Fitter position available in Johannesburg.
Maintenance Fitter position available in a fully automated manufacturing environment in Midrand.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Meet with maintenance foreman and production staff to discuss maintenance/engineering breakdowns in the plant.
- Record all work required and completed on the Preventative Maintenance platform.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools and reassemble equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments.
- Assemble, install and/or repair pipe systems and plumbing, machinery, and equipment.
- Health and safety.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs, as necessary.
- Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Direct and train workers to install, maintain, or repair mechanical equipment.
- Record maintenance and repair work performed and the costs of the work.
- Clean and lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
- Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
- Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
- Set up, adjust, and operate all the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
- Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
- Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
- Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
- Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.
- Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
- Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
Requirements:
- N3 or Matric
- Trade tested
- Exposure in a manufacturing environment (continuous processing plant) will be an advantage
- At least 5 years’ experience
- Pneumatics and hydraulics experience
- Own transport
- Good communication skills
- Computer literate
- Residing in a 20km radius from Midrand – due to breakdowns and standby
