The Technology Application Manager will manage the following in detail:
Supporting Technology Strategy & Innovation:
- Contribute to developing and implementing technical strategies and plans that align with corporate goals.
- Lead the planning and execution of a Technology Applications strategy consistent with the overall technology road map.
- Create and manage an Applications Road map that aligns with budget, resources, and industry trends.
- Provide input on commercial strategies by developing value-added services for customers.
- Analyze market trends to identify opportunities for digitization and automation.
- Propose innovative solutions to address unmet business needs and drive industry leadership.
Planning and Organisation:
- Track performance against the Applications Road map to ensure timely delivery.
- Identify automation opportunities and integrate IoT into platforms for improved decision-making and incident response.
- Assess architectural designs to ensure they meet business and digitisation requirements.
- Work with technology teams to measure successful application deployment and quantify business benefits.
- Develop and present business cases for alternative solutions and guide decision-making.
Execute Analysis & Design Activities:
- Define specifications and requirements for new product development.
- Provide input throughout the application development life cycle.
- Analyse and report on the quality and performance of technical solutions, addressing any gaps.
- Improve processes through predictive analysis and application development.
- Prepare recommendations for upgrading or replacing applications for board approval.
- Evaluate and recommend enhancements to close gaps in current processes.
Technical Implementation:
- Guide resolution of incidents, manage problem tickets, and oversee application maintenance.
- Demonstrate the business value of adopting new application systems.
- Manage the life cycle of deployed applications, assessing their benefits and relevance.
- Advise on future-proof applications and those adaptable to AI and machine learning.
Customer Management:
- Ensure SLAs are met and drive decision-making by analysing data to identify challenges and opportunities.
- Monitor performance metrics to add value to customers.
- Engage with customers and business units, presenting performance results at steering committees.
Business Partner Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and vendors.
- Serve as the main contact for communication regarding system changes and updates.
- Collaborate with teams and stakeholders to effectively manage systems and applications.
Risk Management:
- Identify and analyse risks associated with applications and systems, and take appropriate actions to mitigate them.
- Conduct monthly self-assessments to ensure compliance with internal controls and address any audit issues.
- Adhere to governance and control requirements, ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations and the POPI Act.
Reporting:
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports on application performance in line with business unit metrics.
- Manage and escalate system challenges to vendors, ensuring alignment with business requirements.
- Present performance and audit reports at customer forums to address issues and outline resolution plans.
Finance:
- Prepare operating and capital expenditure budgets, and manage application budgets to optimise resources.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities and make budgetary recommendations aligned with departmental goals.
- Monitor and justify budget deviations, adhering to financial management practices.
Leadership and People Management:
- Optimise department resources to enhance productivity and delivery.
- Provide expert support for critical issues and manage headcount in line with company policies.
- Oversee recruitment, performance management, training, and development across the team.
- Lead performance management, inspire the team, and offer support, coaching, and training.
- Manage talent management processes to maximise the value of high-performing employees.
- Ensure compliance with HR policies and labour laws.
- Drive ongoing training and development, coordinating with the Training Academy.
- Conduct disciplinary hearings in compliance with legal and company policies.
The Successful Applicant
The suitable Technology Application Manager has the following background:
- 8 years of experience in the Information Technology field, including:
- 3 years in software or applications development and leading technical teams.
- 3 years managing modern open-source technologies.
- 2 years working in a multi-disciplinary team structure, promoting collaboration and teamwork.
- Experience in managing projects with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.
Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field. Certification in relevant Enterprise Architecture or technology frameworks and methodologies (preferred).
